Try a Hard Reset as follows.
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for a full minute. Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and see if this has helped the issue at all.

Try removing the battery and boot with only power cord.

I just ran into the same problem. This is what worked for me:
With the computer booted up and running, remove the battery. Leave the battery out while performing restore. If you put the battery back in while the restore is underway, it will be detected and refer you back to the same "no AC power is connected" error box.
This is an awesome function and capability, if only it worked properly! I'm not sure if this is a BIOS or battery issue, but apparently the software "switch" that detects power is not working correctly.

Wow. Removing the battery when it's complaining we're running on battery -- then it CAN'T think we're on battery. So obvious NOW ---- Why didn't I think of that? Thanks!

Obviously, I wouldn't have guessed the laptop would work without the batt if it wouldn't power-up without it, but this procedure worked like a charm. All is restored and right with the universe.
