HP Mini in never ending startup repair

I have a netbook Mini 110 which originally went funny. It would go through a semi normal startup to the windows background but with no icons or start menu, just the cursor. After looking at post I have been through the BIOS settings and they are all reset, the same thing happened, I tried a hard reset removing the battery - same result. I then tried an f11 start up and it went eventually into Startup Repair. It analysed the problems and now has been stuck on attempting repairs for 24 hours now, the HDD light is flashing and the bar is still going across but nothing appears to be happening. Can anyone help please? Previously I tried hard resetting it again and the problem was exactly the same - I have now been trying to solve this for the last two days with the system running start up repair for most of that time.
