HP Pavilion DV6-2020sa - Black screen, two blinking lights.

In the past hour my DV6-2020sa has stopped working. I have a black screen and the lights are blinking 2 times, which seems to mean a bios corruption. I have tried a hard reset but it's not helped. Can anyone help me work out how to fix this please?

It sounds like your CMOS battery is defective or discharged.  This is NOT the main battery

that is used to power the dv6-2020.  It is typically a small battery that is larger than a dime..

about the size of a quarter.  It is usually accessible under a removable panel on the bottom

of the computer.  It may or may not be user replaced..It's possible that it could be soldered

directly onto the main PC circuit board, but it usually can be replaced by the end user.  The

system BIOS (also called the CMOS table) is what the computer uses to startup even before

the Windows OS starts to load.  So, if the CMOS battery is discharged, your PC will do nothing

or behave in a manner that you have described.  A typical CMOS battery would be a CR-2032,

but there are many others.  You can replace it yourself if you:

1.  Disconnect everything from the PC

2.  Remove the main battery

3.  Open up the service cover on the bottom of the PC

4.  Remove the memory modules from their mounting sockets...usually two DDR3

     modules.  They are small circuit boards about the size of a bandaid and are

     usually held in place by spring type retaining clips.  Do NOT touch the gold

     connecting pins on the modules.

5.  Before you do any of this, make shure that you are not charged with static

     electricity...touch something metal that is grounded...a sink water pipe, etc.

6.  Remove the CMOS battery and replace it...observe the polarity!

7.  Reassemble all of the above.

8.  Turn on the PC and follow the screen instructions...you will have to enter the

     correct time and date.

9.  This should take care of the problem...give it a try...you have nothing to lose.

10.  CMOS batteries usually last 4 to 5 years.

11.  Most HP laptops can display the CMOS table by pressing the fn and esc keys

       simultaneously or possibly by pressing the f8 or f10 key while the PC is just

       starting to boot up.  Pressing these keys can be tricky, they have to be

       pressed at just the right time, but you can do it...it may take several attempts.

       Usually, a message that says "press esc key" will be displayed briefly in the 

       lower left corner of the screen at the beginning of the boot process.

12.  Correction...I just looked at this post and it contains an error...sorry.  Pressing

       the "fn and esc" keys will display the system information window...NOT the CMOS

       table.  To access the CMOS table, press the "esc" key when prompted to do so

       during the boot up process.

13.  The CMOS table (BIOS) is contained in a chip on the main PC circuit board.  The

       "esc" key will access the CMOS setup screens that will allow you to change only

       some of the parameters that are listed.

Hi Thank you for your response. I've changed the battery but the problem still remains the same.
