Please Test the hard drive then the memory modules (run the extended test on the hard drive), post back the results.

Re: HP Pavilion dv7-3165ev recovery failed

Are you using recovery discs that you created or the ones from HP?

Re: HP Pavilion dv7-3165ev recovery failed

SCTaylor: I am not the original poster, but I seem to have the same problem.

I am trying to recover a UK Model (G6 2082sa) Pavillion using either the recovery partition, or the 5DVDs I burned when first getting the machine. I am loathe to pay 31 quid for something should have been included in the first place. Is this really something which Official HP recovery disks will fix?

(I'd even be happy to do a clean install using a Digital River ISO, but it wants drivers for the CD/DVD which can't be found)

Re: HP Pavilion dv7-3165ev recovery failed

I'm having the same problem with my dv7-3165dx it keeps giving me a start up error and wont recover with the disks, then when i try again it says the hard drive that is installed is smaller than the one that originally came with the computer, problem is (other than the whole broken laptop issue altogether) its the same hard drive that's been installed from the time of purchase.

Re: HP Pavilion dv7-3165ev recovery failed

The reason I suggest purchasing and using the HP order recover disc is because it will repartition the hard drive and provide you with the recovery partition again. Using the disc that you created will now recreate the recovery partition.
