HP Pavilion g7 1019WM running Win 7 Home Pre stopped working. Using the 3 HP recovery disk failed

HP Pavilions g7 1019WM notebook stopped working. Accepted that I would have to reformat and reinstall. Using the 3 recovery disk from HP I can not get win 7 to re-install (4 times). Trouble shooting this myself I have found the hard drive maybe compromised but not sure. Error <303>  displays when checking the hard drive. I have re-formatted computers before from MS 3.1 to XP Pro and not experienced this anomaly before. Thanking you in advance. wingslevel

Hi,

It would look like you will need to replace the HDD as the 303 error is a failure of the short Smart Disk Test, this would also explain the issue with reinstalling the OS.

Many thanks David, I had/have the empty feeling that's what I will end up doing, replacing the hard drive{Content Removed: Language Filter Evasion} What a pain it's only a couple of months old. It, for no just slowed down to a crawl then whatever program I was using stopped responding. Thanks for the fast reply.

Hi Jimmy,

That's a pretty classic sign of the hard drive failing - at least you notebook ( and so the HDD ) is still under warranty.  In this case, what normally happens is that HP will send you a new drive - you pay a deposit which is refunded when you return the defective HDD.

To arrange this, if you live in the US, contact HP Here.

If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

Hello David, two quick points. One, I would like you to know what a class act...helping strangers with computer problems is a brave act in-and-of-it-self because you can in a word is cool! Second please know this old guy has been around the track enough times to that we are running out of "Good guys". You, David are one of the "Good guys". Thank you.
