Had to make DVD w/MyDocuments how do I restore them

Hello everyone....

Had to rebuild my HP G56 after the Win 7 SP1 rollup failed.

I created the CD/DVD media using the backup utility from the HP recovery console.

Now, after rebuilding, I want to restore the various My Documents (documents, music, pics, videos), but cannot figure out how to do it.

Can't run the application on the disc.   Windows backup/restore does not recognize the disc in the DVD-RW drive.

Any/all help is appreciated.

Try to doubleclick on "RecoveryMgr  (application)"

Double clicking RecoveryMgr.exe will expand all the wim files to a folder on your C drive (may take some time depending on how much data there is), the folder is usually labeled "System Recovery", these will just be files in the folder, you have to figure out where to put them, as recoverymgr will not restore them to the original locations due to possible diifferent user name issues.

Re: Had to make DVD w/MyDocuments how do I restore them

I tried running the recovermgr from the DVD...  I get the brief "circling the drain" icon, but no error message, no program window, nothing.

Even tried to "run as administrator" following a right-click, same result??

Even tried to run the recovery manager from the All Programs >> Maintenance folder.  I put the DVD in the drive, but the RM does not recognize it???

There might be a recovery manager update for windows, you would need to run HP Support Assistant to check for updates, if there is one for Recovery Manager, apply it. For now skip any other updates that show up in HPSA

Re: Had to make DVD w/MyDocuments how do I restore them

if all else fails download 7zip and it will extract the .wim folders for you.
