LOST IT ALL, please help!!!

My system loads to the point of starting windows then goes into a repair screen and then gives me three choices which include system recovery, hp support, and system check.  It will not successfully complete a restore point.  I do not want to do a total system restore.  It will not link me to any support and the check comes back with a catastrophic error.  I have run every test from the boot menu and there is no errors indicated.  Is there any way around a recovery back to factory?  If not can I still run the back up it offers to catch what was on there?  If I do will it keep whichever error is causing the problem?

Hi,

Try the following to see if this is a hardware error.

Shutdown the notebook.  Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory.  Post back with the details of any error messages and also with the operating system and version you are using ( ie Windows 7 32bit ) and the full Model No. or Part No. of your notebook.

Re: LOST IT ALL, please help!!!

Hi,

If you don't already have one, create a Windows 7 Recovery CD.  Download the relevant ISO from the links below.

Windows 7 32bit

Windows 7 64bit

You should use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO to a CD.  Once created, or if you already have this, insert the CD and restart to boot from it.  Select the Repair option.

Select the 'Repair your Computer' option and follow Option 2 in the guide on the link below to run Startup Repair.

Try tapping F8 at the HP logo when booting, this will bring up the Advanced screen, then select "repair yourcomputer" at the top, this will load the Windows Recovery Environment (same as the iso files recommended) saves time.

Do the Startup repair from there, sometimes it takes up to 3 startup repairs to get it booting.
