My recovery drive is almost full. What should I do?

I have a HP Pavilion dv7-4295us Entertainment Notebook PC and I keep getting the message that my recovery drive is almost full.  It seems as though something is being saved to this drive in order to use up all this disk space.  I cannot open the drive to see what files are in it.  What should I do?

Thanks,

DianeMarie

Re: My recovery drive is almost full. What should I do?

Hi,

You should not touch and store anything in the Recovery partition (drive). Now is the time to move files/things away and you need to move the right files otherwise this last resource would not work.

Good luck.

Re: My recovery drive is almost full. What should I do?

I have a HP Pavilion dv7-4295us Entertainment Notebook PC, running Windows 7 and below are the files on my RECOVERY (D:smileyhappy:

 Revovery Almost Full-1.jpg

Revovery Almost Full-2.jpg

In “erData” folder are these 2 files:  Revovery Almost Full-3.jpg

In “bm_verifylog” is an empty Notepad file:

 Revovery Almost Full-4

In “erUBK_Folder” are these 2 files:

Revovery Almost Full-5.jpg

In “images” folder are 31 files, but Windows cannot open them:

 Revovery Almost Full-6.jpg

 Revovery Almost Full-7.jpg

The “UBKInfo.dat” file Windows cannot open it:

The “Recovery” folder does not open any files no matter where I click:

 Revovery Almost Full-9.jpg

In “HPSF_Rep” Text Document is 1 Notepad file with only a date and time in it:

Revovery Almost Full-10.jpg

On 03-05-12 my notebook gave me the SMART Hard Disk Error.  On 03-07-12 HP picked up my computer and replaced the hard disk and returned it to me on 04-02-12.  When they returned it to me, I did not get the message saying that my recovery disk was almost full.  Not until about 3 weeks ago did it start occurring.  What files should I delete?

Re: My recovery drive is almost full. What should I do?

Hi,

It seems to me system created recovery files when getting Hard Disk errors. Should be safe to delete them now.

Regards.

Re: My recovery drive is almost full. What should I do?

Hi,

Thank you for your response. This is what I have done.

I deleted the following files in erData in RECOVERY (D:smileyhappy:

The 2 folders in“erData”: Revovery Almost Full-3.jpg

In “bm_verifylog” I deleted the empty Notepad file:

Revovery Almost Full-4

In the “erUBK_Folder” I deleted these 2 files:

Revovery Almost Full-5.jpg

In the “images” folder I deleted 31 files:

Revovery Almost Full-6.jpg

Revovery Almost Full-7.jpg

I deleted the “UBKInfo.dat” file :

Revovery Almost Full-8.jpg

Now my RECOVERY (D:smileyhappy: drive says 4.61 GB free of 31.6 GB.  It does not seem as though I gained enough space even though I did a full scan and defragmented it.

The “Recovery” folder still does not open any files no matter where I click:

Revovery Almost Full-9.jpg

Can I delete this, “HPSF_Rep” Text Document which has 1 Notepad file with only a date and time in it:

Revovery Almost Full-10.jpg

Any more suggestion?

Thanks,

Diane

Hi Diane,

sorry I can't help but I have a DV7 like yours and it is now doing the same thing as yours did, just wondering if you managed to get it resolved

Cheers
