Need Help: Where to get this recovery disc?

Hi. I live in UK, and I have a HP 6163cl laptop, that I got when I was on my trip to USA. I messed it up, by installing Windows 8, and now even the Switchable Graphics don't work. I don't know what else to do, so where can I get a recovery CD for my laptop? I only saw recovery CD's for 6163us, 6163sf and 6163ef. If I get the one for 6163us and use it, will it still work? I want to order it from a place, where shipping will be really fast, I want no longer than 9 days, if possible, because I'm going on a trip on 4th of April, and I'd really much like to take actually usable laptop, because now with Windows 8, I can't even play games. Thank you! :smileyvery-happy:

Re: Need Help: Where to get this recovery disc?

Hi:

I don't know if the recovery disk from the dv6-6163 will work. It should but you never know.

I have an alternative solution for you, and then you can get the drivers from your PC's support and driver page.

According to your PC's system specs it came with W7 Home Premium 64 bit, correct?

If so, download the W7 Home Premium 64 bit ISO file (English) at the link below. Burn the file to a disk using a DVD burning program that can burn ISO files so the DVD is bootable. Burn at the slowest speed you can.

Then use the 25 character product key on the bottom of your notebook to activate the installation.

Thank you, I will do that! :smileyhappy:  I actually had reinstalled before, and I had problems hunting down the Switchable Graphics Driver and I couldn't make it work. Not to even mention, that some drivers didn't install in teh first place.. there was an error or something. Could you give me clear instructions on setting up all the Switchable Graphics and everything, please?

Re: Need Help: Where to get this recovery disc?

Hi:

Unfortunately, I know absolutely nothing about switchable graphics.

See if any of this info helps...

Is there a specific order you need to install?  Intel first or AMD first?

If you have any trouble finding drivers, click on each device needing drivers in the device manager. Then click on the details tab.

In the properties drop down list select the second item (Hardware ID's).

Post the top string of characters you see in the window.  Those will ID the type and model of the device and I can send you the links to the drivers you need.

Thank you! I am now going to start installing Windows 7 Home Premium. This time I'm not going to  be an idiot, and I'm going to download drivers already now and place them somewhere safe, so my Wi-Fi would work after re-installing, lmao. Last time I reinstalled I had to go over to a friends house and put the drivers on an USB. xD

I'm done reinstalling Windows. Now just the drivers left. Do you think I should install Windows Update before installing drivers or after? Because I checked the Windows Update list, and it's offering me to install automatically graphics drivers! :smileyhappy:

EDIT: Yay!!! I got all the drivers working, and even Switchable Graphics work! ;o There was one driver, that told me, that I 'don't meet minimum requirements', and that's this one: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-102012-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en... ... Why did they list it there in the first place? Is that something I should be worried about?

Re: Need Help: Where to get this recovery disc?

Hi:

if everything works (including your switchable graphics), I definitely wouldn't worry about it.

Did you get everthing working now?  No devices in the device manager needing drivers?

if so, you're done!

Enjoy!
