New HD won't boot up!

I have an HP G60 laptop that is 1.5 years old.  It died on me this week and test showed failed hard disk, replace.  I went out and found the only HD I could find was a WD 1TB.  Installed it in about 10 mins started it up with the my system recovery disc #1.  Went through all the steps and inserted disc # 2 & #3 when asked.  It took about 45-1 hour.  When it finished, it told me to remove all system recovery discs and click continue to restart.  When I did so, it shut off and back on and I get a dos screen that reads "No Bootable Device-Insert boot disk and press any key.  What the heck do I do now?

Thanks!

Re: New HD won't boot up!

When you see that error try ctrl+alt+del, see if windows loads.

See the last post in this thread by radiantmind, if that does not work

Thanks dog!

ctrl-alt-del didn't work for me.  Don't know what the hiren bootcd is but I will look for it.

Re: New HD won't boot up!

Man, I looked up the hiren bootcd and its a 500MB download.  I'm on crappy Hughes net and can only download 400MB's in a 24 hour period!  This really suck!  What can I do now?

Re: New HD won't boot up!

figure out how long it will take to download, divide that by half, say its 4 hours total download time for example, start the download 2 hours before midnight, hopefully the hughes limit will reset at midnight and allow the download to finish.

If that does not work use a download manager that can pause the download before you use up the limit, then resume it the next day.

Re: New HD won't boot up!

Didn't think of that!  I can set an alarm for 2:00 AM and I will have unlimited until 5:00AM.  Thanks for the thought.

Re: New HD won't boot up!

Update:  I downloaded the Herin Bootcd 15.1 at 3:00AM.  Burned it to DVD, put it in my drive and hit Enter.   Everything went well as to the instructions by Radiantmind from your link.  Everything went well until after step 5 when I exited. Typed M for menu but there wa no option for "smart f disk" and I don't know what it means by "repartition your HHD as you like?  I'm really lost at this step.  I am not very good with computers other than messing them up.

Please help?

Re: New HD won't boot up!

Update:

OK, I guess 3rd time is a charm!  I tried all of the above and nothing worked.  After the 3rd time running my 3 recovery disc's and letting it reformat the HD, it worked like it should.  It is now up and running, go figure!  I don't know why but it did.  Do any of you know why?  I didn't do anything differently each time.

Re: New HD won't boot up!

I am very glad!  Now it's loading the 101 windows updates from the last 1 1/2 years!  lol  So I guess people who get the messge, no bootable device, after the recovery and the other thing don't work then they can just redo it a few more times! :smileytongue:
