Hi,
Last year I bought the HP Pavilion dv7-4070us laptop, running windows 7 64bit. Everything has been fine and dandy until recently. The past few days I have only been watching youtube videos and TV series, when one day I turn on my computer to find that it stays on the Windows 7 splash screen for an abnormal amount of time. This had happened to me once before, but for some weird reason, ( FYI: I am tech savvy, so this issue was a bit bizarre) it was fixed last time. However, unlike last time, the issue has not been resolved, loading time still takes like 5 min or more. Additionally when I ran the system diagnostics test, the hard drive failed the short DST with the failure id: PKVV5g-5525T4-XD003G-60QN03.
Additionally I ran the seagate (samsung has "teamed" up with seagate) hard drive diagnostic with the same result, short DST failure, but long generic and short generic and smart is verified and passed. So I was wondering if anyone had this similar issue, and how were you able to resolve the situation. Again, the only thing I have done recently is only go on the internet to view youtube and TV series/drama, the only possible changes could be windows update. Other than that I really have not tinkered around with the system.
Searching high and low, it looks like I may have to replace the hard drive. However I am hoping to not have to do this since the warranty had just expired a couple months ago. If anyone could please respond or help I would immensely appreciate it! Happy Holidays.
P.S.. Should you require more relevant information, just ask. Thanks again!

DST failure is always in my experiences time to replace the hdd. Better get your files backed up soon because sometimes the fail comes quickly after this notice.

Thank you for your insight and response! I was afraid it may have come to this, grrrrr of all the worst timings.
Related to this question, perhaps someone may have answered this question, but for the sake of helping others, when purchasing a new hard drive to replace the OEM failing one, should I get the greater or equal size amount? e.g. my laptop OEM is 640 GB, so am I suppose to replace this OEM with anything bigger or equal to 640 gb?
The reason for the follow up question is due to the fact that I have gone and bought another hard drive, a 500 GB hard drive to be exact, everything matchs, physical size and the type of connection (SATA). However, upon doing a factory reset, I receive a message stating: "The hard drive of this computer is smaller than the original shipped hard drive. Recovery process cannot continue." So am I safe to assume that I require something bigger or equal to 640 gb Hard drive? Thank you again!
