started this after a normal update of windows and HP assistant. at first it could be bypassed by just hitting enter, then after a couple weeks I got the message that windows was not genuine, I did a recovery to no avail then called hp (HQT44201)and ask them and was told my recovery disk was corrupt, I needed to order new ones from them, which I ordered at $15.00. I now have the same error message with no operating system. 

I would love any help with this, all the solutions I have found are Questionable to say the least or extremely expensive. Its only a little over a year old. 

I've done a search on the error message and it seems that this is a common problem to hp/compaq that has a very expensive fix for it. It basically makes them disposable. Cost to fix almost the same as a knew one. Seems to me that since it is a known issue that the problem would be fixed or at least a patch for it.

Unfortunately only HP can solve this bios problem, is it under warranty?

That what i was afraid of.  No warranty ran out in june. Think Ill just write this off to expereince an move on. I won't be buying another Hp /Compaq nor recommend the brand due to it being a known problem and the cost of repair compared to buying a new one. Thanks so much

Here is what you could do, download a copy of W7 Home 64bit from this link (burn the ISO to a DVD as an Image, might need to be a dual layer DVD), install it to the C partition and use the Windows product key from the sticker on the bottom of the notebook to get it activated.

Once W7 is installed you may need to install some Network drivers for your wireless or ethernet, then you can get to the internet and download HP support Assistant and use that to get the rest of the drivers installed.

the issue is the tattoo on the bios, you can try flashing the bios to see if that resolves the issue. Give me your P/N number and i can find the link. If that does not work, you will need a service
