Recover my family pics from the HP_Recovery Partition (D)?

Product Name and Number: HP Pavilion dv6700, Windows Vista 64 bit The original OS crashed and a tech installed a new Windows Vista 64 bit OS. The HP_Recovery (D) Partition is still resident. It has 12.8 GB of data stored. The HP_Recovery Partition (D) has the following warning message:

Warning!

This area of your hard drive

(or partition) contains files used

for your PC Recovery.

Do not delete or alter these files.

Any change to this partition could

prevent any recovery later.

Re: Recover my family pics from the HP_Recovery Partition (D)?

Hi,

Unfortunately the Recovery Partition D just contains the files necessary to be able to reinstall the Operating System, it will not contain any personal files ( unless files were backed-up to this partition accidentally ).

Regards,

Re: Recover my family pics from the HP_Recovery Partition (D)?

Hi,

You're welcome and sorry it wasn't better news.

Have you tried using a third party file retrieval software such as the free option on the link below?

http://www.piriform.com/recuva

If you do try this, you stand the best chance of retrieving any files by not doing anything on the PC which has had the Operating System reinstalled, so install the above application on a USB drive using another PC and then use this to see if you can recover any files.

Regards,
