I have reinstalled XP on my 1151NR from recovery CDs but the activation key on the Microsoft certificate of authenticity label on the underside of the netbook is worn and totally illegible.
A call to HP support gave the advice "... we can't give you a new key. You'll have to contact Microsoft"
But the Microsoft site says "If the software came preinstalled on your computer, please contact the manufacturer of your computer to obtain a replacement product key"
I can't be the only one that has the key rubbed off - any advice? Anybody know who can replace the key??
Thanks in advance ... JS

In all of the years I have been on the forums I have never seen anyone get a replacement.
But, Recovery cds should not require one anyway. Is yours asking for a key?

Many thanks for the response CherylG !
I was afraid that might be the case. Would it be so difficult to make the label plasticized so that it wouldn't wear - you know, just like all the advertising labels!
But I think you're right about the need - the recovery process certainly didn't ask for a key. I guess I'm so used to having to find the key before it times out and shuts down!!
Again ... thanks
