Re: Update: Re: bootmgr is missing

@TRJLV- Keep in mind, with defective recovery disks, you get the *same error* with a brand new hard drive! Did your diagnostics show an error? Ours did, which is why we had to replace the hard drive first. BTW, I even tried partitioning and formatting the drive with another Win 7 machine first, before attempting to use the restore disks again. (Sometimes recovery systems don't handle formatting and partitioning well. Although less common today, it used to be the norm years ago). Same problem. Disk #2 may start to run or not at all, but never completes. Hitting ESC cancels (after several 'idle' hours) and reboots, leading to the bootmgr error. I can't believe how hard so many people at HP are working to avoid actually doing their job! Instead of replacing disks- or even discussing it- they simply read a script and start over when they get to the part about defective disks :smileysad: I hope the Board of Directors read my professional letter carefully. At this point they could cut at least half the people in 'support' and provide training and oversight to the remaining 50% and come out WAAAYY ahead! Faster and more effective service and not chase customers away! Ironically, HP's customer service just rec'd some sort of customer service award (google). Apparently, it must be based on number of rec'd complaints. So if customers can't reach customer service to make complaints and HP's staff are trained to prevent any actual accountability or complaints, I guess all they have to do is show up in the office, do nothing, brush off customers, and take home the award? Hmmm...maybe there is a Nobel Prize waiting for them? :smileyvery-happy:

Re: Update: Re: bootmgr is missing

no, i did not run diagnostics yet...got too frustrated and just turned it off. first disk finished, put in 2nd (i've started over about 3 times now i think) says finished and to click ok to reboot and then get the bootmgr is missing again. i have another driver recovery disk but that one never does anything and never get prompted for it...so do i just need to keep trying from the beginning again??? or??? i wish i would have never called for support because i at least it still worked and i was able to use it, just kept getting the windows not genuine popping up all the time...luckily i have another PC to use or i'd really be screwed!! anyways, any suggestions? or is there a way to just get it back to where it was before this whole fiasco?

i agree with you about the support dept!! they hardly even speak english and are just reading from the manual i'm sure...just like i did to even figure out how to install the disks in the first place since they came with no instructions! VERY VERY SAD that a company of that magnitude can take advantage of us "little" people that way and not even think twice about it....KARMA is all i have to say about that! Lol

Re: Update: Re: bootmgr is missing

weird i got rid of the errors by getting a new hard drive  and using the disc it restores the files....  when i had issues it says bootmgr missing the first time so the disc is useless til you get new hard drive.

Re: bootmgr is missing

I like many others is having a problem with HP Recovery DIsks.

I purchased a new HD for my G2 Laptop due to a HD failure.

ALong with the new HD i received the 2 Recovery disks and a Driver Disk.

After installing the new drive I ran the Recovery Disks, Everything seemed to be going fine until the install files part. The install froze at 12%. I had to close the Laptop down to get out of the install.

Subsequent to that when restarting the laptopm i get the bootmgr is missing message. Everything I try leads me back to a unsuccessful recovery.

I have run a diagnostic on the new drive and it comes back as No problems with the new Hard Drive.

Does anyone have any solution on how the recover back to the start of a Window startup that allows continuation of reinstalling drivers and other programs?

Re: bootmgr is missing

A couple of things. 1. The HP Recovery disks are NOT Windows installation disks. Rather, they are disks that restore an *IMAGE* (basically a copy of all the pre-configured software on a drive). 2. HP continues to ship the restore disk set with a *DEFECTIVE* disk 2. I don't know why, except they think all users are stupid and will just assume they are too dumb to figure it out and buy a new computer instead? 3. HP charges you for this privilege and ducks your calls when you report the defective disks. Those with the same problem, keep posting here. After enough folks post, we'll make some real noise with some media coverage about rip-offs....

Re: bootmgr is missing

Thanks for your quick response. I have been on the telephone with HP Technical Support and so far no real answers. One would think that if this is such a common problem they would be prepared to deal with it quickly and decisively.

Re: bootmgr is missing

yep running diagnostics test on mine now...so far so good....
they keep you on the phone forever (think i was on for at least an hour) while they have you run tests which they are just following directions from the manual which you can do yourself....thats my guess anyways...then get you to spend money on the disks....found a previous post looking through the blogs that i am thinking about trying next....i'll find it again since i printed it out and repost...
