error 0XE0EF003

Hello,

My mothers laptop is showing error factory image cannot be restored 0XE0EF003 when I am trying to factory restore the system. She did not receive a recovery disc with her purchase.

We first discovered  the problem when we switched her laptop on and it asked for a system restore with error:0xc00000e9

I then tried a system restore and got the error at the top of this post.

Can I use any windows recovery disc or does it have to be a specific version?

Is there any work arounds I can use?

Computer name: CQ61-320SA

Hardware product number:

  VN058EA#ABU

Windows 7

Many Thanks

Re: error 0XE0EF003

Its possible the hard drive is failing, to test the hard drive hold F10 down while you power up, keep holding F10 down until the bios screen appears, Use the Right Arrow or Left Arrow keys to navigate through the menu selection to locate the Primary Hard Drive Self Test option. Depending on your BIOS, this may be located below either Diagnostics or Tools. Post back any error codes.

Re: error 0XE0EF003

Here is your service manual, it will show you how to remove and replace the hard drive.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01868653.pdf

You can buy a hard drive anywhere you like, as long as it is a 2.5" notebook hard drive with a Sata interface.

You should choose one of the same size or larger, so if you have a 250gb, choose one at least 250gb or larger, 750gb max.

Once the hard drive is replaced use the HP recovery disc set to reinstall the Operating System.

Re: error 0XE0EF003

You can order recovery media at the link below, or call HP on the phone to order. 1-800-HPInvent

If HP no longer has Recovery Media for your model, order them here (more expensive than HP most of the time, use as last resort)
