i need to reinstall the factory settings on my hp paviliondv4 entertainment notebook

I recently wiped out my facory settings, partitions, wireless etc and need to restore them.  I asked Best Buy to do it and they said i needed to get a recovery disk from HP, however upon trying to do so I have found my laptop is out of warrenty.  How can I get a recovery disk for a notbook that is no longer under warrenty.  What are my otpions?

thank you

Hi:

Please read the instructions at the link below for info on how to order recovery disks. Your notebook does not have to be within the warranty period to obtain these disks.

Hi,

It doesn't matter whether you are still under warranty or not, you can still order a replacement set of Recovery Discs using the link below - the actual cost of these discs will vary depending on where you live.

If you have any problem with this link, order them directly from HP.

If you live in the US, contact HP Here.

If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

Regards,

Re: i need to reinstall the factory settings on my hp paviliondv4 entertainment notebook

Thank you to both of you.  I went through this via the link you provided but when selecting my OS and click on this link for

Windows 7 Premium / Professional 64b + Supp 6 Recovery Kit ►

I get the following error message:

error '80004005'

/driver/dr_country_select.asp, line 37

no really sure how to proceed from here. Any ideas?

Re: i need to reinstall the factory settings on my hp paviliondv4 entertainment notebook

Hi:

Just call the number David posted, and order by telephone.

Those links rarely work, unfortunately.

You will need to have your model number and serial number handy to provide to the customer services rep.

Re: i need to reinstall the factory settings on my hp paviliondv4 entertainment notebook

good luck.. bought a new set of recovery cd's after hp's 'tech' dept decided the sound card issue that appeared after they put a refurbed motherboard in it on the previous repair, was driver related and sent the unit back with a "new".. completely empty hard drive. Ok.. shame on us for loosing the initial set.. no big deal... ran the recovery... failed.. started over.. failed.. took unit back into best buy.. they did a hard format to clean the drive, ran the recovery.. failed... did a complete diagnostic check on the system, appears to have passed all tests.. tried again to reinstall via new recovery disks.. failed...

they are now trying to install windows 7 instead of vista which came with the system to see if actual issue is with system or the 'new' recovery disks.. the techs have commented on the fact that bad cd's seem to be an increasing issue when trying to recover repaired computers.. Suspect the refurbed mlb's might have had an engineering 'tweak'... and the software doesn't recognize it or can't deal with it.. Since this is the 4th time, under best buy's extended warranty.. am hoping they declare the system a lemon so daughter can buy her an apple

Hi:

There was a patch that is supposed to fix HP windows 7 factory recovery disks when used with a new hard drive.

I don't know if this was the issue that you are experiencing but I will share this link with you and you can determine if that is the case.

"CyberLink Recovery Discs utility resolves an issue where Recovery Discs sent from HP do not work on a new hard drive."
