the BIOS update software is successfully downloaded. Installation begins but never completes. I left the install to run for more than 3 hours and it never completed. I had to stop/abort the attempted install. Why is it not installing? What should I do? Should I intall this manually to my laptop and try installing it that way?

Hi,
Are you trying to update the bios through HP Support Assistant? If that's correct, can you post back with the sp number of the update ( this will be in the form spxxxxx ).

We went through all this nonsense 6 months ago with the last BIOS update. The laughably misnamed Support Assistant just won't do BIOS updates. As you describe, the installation never completes. The only solution is to download and install the BIOS update independently of the "Support Assistant".
