1-I had no indicator showing the num lock on or off so I followed the instructions to set this and no longer have the num pad working at all and am unable to restore the "screen keyboard" it only shows a portion of the things from that odd screen keyboard thing.  Bottom line I have no num pad that works now aas well as no num lock indicator. HELP!!

I was able to find a resolution on a Windows Report reference that had me go to Control Panel / Ease of Access and uncheck the option for "Mouse Keys". Issue resolved . Now I am back to my original issue of trying to find the num lock indicator (don't see anywhere). This was my original issue that led me to the issue shown here in this post. Thanks again for the help.

Hi @ Abobby,

Good day .and thank you for choosing the HP community. ! 🙂 It is a great location to find resolutions.

I reviewed the post about numeric keypad issues on your computer I’ll be more than happy to assist you here. 🙂

At the outset, you’ve diagnosed the issue perfectly and performed great analysis of the situation before posting the query on HP forums.

Excellent job on that score. Kudos to you. It is always a privilege to work with technically savvy customers.

I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. We value your relationship with HP and wish to serve you better. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this.

  • When was the numeric keyboard last working?
  • Could you share what instructions were followed to disable the functionality of the numeric keys?
  • Did you download any third-party software or instructions to do it? Please share the complete information.
  • Please let me know the complete model# of the unit and the operating system involved.

Fort starters, please perform a bios defaults by performing these steps:

  1. Turn on or restart the computer.
  2. While the display is blank, press the f10 key to enter the BIOS settings menu.
  3. Press the f9 key to reset the BIOS to the default settings.
  4. Press the f10 key to save the changes and exit the BIOS settings menu.
  5. Then restart the computer and boot to windows.

Later assuming that computer runs Windows !0, please perform a system restore to an earlier time before the issue started from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03327545

Please follow the steps in the option “Restore your computer when Windows starts normally” from this link.

Hope this helps.  Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂  Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. 🙂

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.

If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. 🙂

Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂

I did the system restore first (the one that doesn't wipe out my files from bewfore). This didn't fix the issue. I tried the BIOS default restore -still not working. It did work originally (I only got this PC Tuesday)-bought as a refurbished unit. Open for ideas still.
