I've had my HP G60-235DX laptop for about a year and a half. I've had miscellaneous problems with, such as it making incredibly loud noises and what not.
However, yesterday I went to go turn it on and it booted and went straight to a black screen. At one point it booted and asked me to run some test to fix the problem (I wish I remembered what it was called) but I ran it and it said it couldn't fix it and came back with all these errors. Eventually, after about 40 minutes I finally got it to boot and everything ran normally.
After about an hour it randomly shut off and took another 15 minutes to turn on since it kept booting to the black screen.
So this all has just been happening over and over again.
What could it be? Everything I've read suggests that it's the motherboard. I'm just pissed that I haven't even had this laptop for 2 years and I'm probably going to have to go buy a new one.

Is everything unplugged from the laptop when it gets the black screen?
everything = all but battery and AC power.
Try testing your hard drive and memory

Yep - I don't have anything plugged into it.
Now when I turn it on all the lights come on and it sounds like it's going to start up, but nothing ever happens. The screen just stays black

This issue is very similar to the DV2000, 6000, and 9000 series laptops, here is a company that repairs those models with great success for a very reasonable fee, you might contact them about your model.

I am having the same exact problem. I've tried everything, and at best it will turn back on after 10-20 minutes.
IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING BUYING THIS MODLE DON'T! RECONSIDER.
I've had this laptop for only a little over a year and its already having problems. Someone please help.

same thing is happening to me. fun! i have no idea if this helps, *but* i've noticed less problems if I disconnect the power, turn it on, and then reconnect the power later.
