I'm going through the exact same thing as you. I have the HP Pavilion dv7-1175nr and I'm trying to play the new "Twilight saga New Moon" i just bought from Wal-mart but nothing i do will make it play. I just keeping getting the message "A component of the player requires periodic updates. Would you like to check for an update now?" Pressing "Yes" or "No"" and even downloading an updated Quick Play player doesn't help at all...

The makers of movie codecs are so afraid of hacking that they change the codecs all the time.
That's why the new movies won't play.
Cyberlink won't let you upgrade because they will say that Your computer has a modified version of the player.
And hp or any other manufacturer isn't going to pay for upgraded codecs.
If you download the trial version of cyberlink's power dvd, I'll bet your movies will play.
