Hi,

I'm trying to print passport photo's (35mm x 45mm) using HP Photo Creations but haven't figured out how to do it right.

I haven't found anything free on the internet either aslthough there's no shortage of programs to buy online which I don't want to do as I just want a block of 2 or 4 pics on one sheet.

Has anyone a quick solution please?

Hello @john9159,

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums! The forums are a great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!

I came across your post about the HP Photo Creations, and wanted to help! I understand that you are trying to use the software to pring passport photos.

Try reviewing the following steps offered by community member @RocketLife:

You can place up to 60 photos on a page in HP Photo Creations. The program doesn't have a preset for passport-size prints, but here's a trick using the Collage Prints project:

  1. Starting on the Home screen, click the Full Catalog button.
  2. Click the Print at Home tab.
  3. Click the Prints & Posters button, then select Collage Prints.
  4. Select the Plain White theme. It's in the Contemporary category.
  5. Add your photo(s).
  6. Click the Photos tools (on the left side of the screen) and then the Used Photos tab. You'll see a small version of your photo there.
  7. Click the photo in the Used Photos area several more times to add multiple copies to the layout. In the example below, we added ten copies total.
  8. Click the Design tools. Then click the Photo Layouts tab.
  9. Select the Basic category and then click the fourth preset. It looks like a big square. Your photos should line up as shown below. You can drag the gray "handles" at the corners of the photo group to resize all photos at once.

Hi and thank you for the reply.

It appears that we are using different versions of HP Photo Creations. My version (which I downloaded from the HP website yesterday) does not have the options which you have specified below. If they are there I have been unable to find them.

Have tinkered with the app for about 20 minutes after which I have given up.

A screen shot of the HP Photo Creations I've been using is as followsUntitled.png

Not sure where I go from here.

That's a vintage screenshot, @SDF15!

There's an easier way to make multi-up prints in HP Photo Creations now: Choose Multi-up Prints from the Prints menu.

Note that HP Photo Creations doesn’t offer a specific passport template, because size is only one part of the standard. For example, some countries require the person's face to fill a certain percentage of the image.

However, by playing with the Image Size and Image Scaling controls on the printing control panel, you can get close to a specific size. The screenshots below show a couple of options.

Hope this helps,

The link given by SDF15 does show your vesion but the downloaded verion is that of the screen shot I showed so that's a no-go I'm afraid.

"Playing with the Image Size and Image Scaling controls" to get something which may or may not be the right size sounds as though it will be wasteful in time and photo paper.

Sadly I will have to draw a conclusion to this although I thought printing to a specific size would have been a very simple task.

Looks like it's a visit to the post office or photo shop.

Thansk all for your efforts.

Hi John.

I'm afraid my reply was too hasty. The point I was trying to make is that a passport photo is a specialized document with numerous requirements beyond the basic dimensions. For example, the UK lists more than 20 additional rules, ranging from background color to head size:

https://www.gov.uk/photos-for-passports/photo-requirements

So we recommend going to a passport photo specialist.

To clear up a few other items for future readers:

  • The black screenshot was from an old version of the program. HP Photo Creations updates itself automatically when you launch it, so you always have the latest version.
  • The print preview shows the output dimensions, so you don't need to use paper or ink to see the effect of adjusting image size and scaling.
  • I suggested "playing with the controls" as a way to make small prints for casual uses, such as scrapbooking or sharing. For example, the settings in my screenshot produce 2x3-inch photos by pairing a 4x6 image with 50% scaling. However, that probably confused things in this passport-photo context.
  • Being able to specify exact print dimensions does seem like a useful feature. I will bring that up with our R&D team.

Thanks again, and happy travels,

RocketLife
