Does it now produce a code when you try to access the BIOS?

Re: i have a hp 6730b with a bios password. how do i clear it.

Hi Provost

All I get is an On-Screen Keyboard.  If I try and enter the password again, it comes up with System Locked. Press the power button to restart the system.

Once a notebook is in system locked mode there is usually a code. The code is what I need to try to help you.

If removing the main battery , RTC battery and power adapter, leaving the RTC battery out for five minutes and then replacing it does not clear the BIOS password and BIOS settings then you do have quite a problem.

If you are able to provide the system locked code I can probably help you.

If you can't, then you will need the assistance of a laptop shop or an HP Service Center.

It will not be an inexpensive repair, since accessing the system board and the BIOS eeprom chip will be required. There are 96 screws and screwlocks holding your notebook together.

Re: i have a hp 6730b with a bios password. how do i clear it.

Hi Erico

I wish I could say there was a code, but there isn't. I know this doen't help. I'm an accredited HP Engineer now working in the mining sector and it's got me beat.

I would have thought by pulling the battery out of the system, it would have worked, normally does.

Would it help to say the once you have pressed the ESC key and it takes you into your options, it is the F10 Bios area that is locked out.

Cheers

Paul

Remove the main battery, RTC battery and have the power adapter disconnected.

Press the power button and hold it for a few seconds to dissipate any remaining charge in the eeprom.
