HP MediaSmart DVD C++ runtime error

Hey guys,

I have a little problem with MediaSmart and I hope someone will know what to do...

Today, I bought "Back to the Future" trilogy on blu-ray. When I tried to play it, MediaSmart asked for update, which I did. Without the update the movie wouldn't start at all. After the update, I finally managed to get in the disk menus and went through some of the bonus materials, but when I tried to play the main movie, MediaSmart crashed with error caused by Microsoft Visual C++ runtime library. Even tried to reinstall the Microsoft Visual C++ but nothing changed.

All my other blu-ray movies are working perfectly and I really have no clue what is wrong. Anyone here with similar problem?

Uninstall your present Media smart DVD with CCleaner.

After the uninstallation, run it's registry cleaner and delete all and restart. Run the registry cleaner again and delete all again and restart. Repeat this operation until it finds nothing.

 Install this latest version, (you didn't say which one you are running, so I don't know if you tried this one)

 ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp49001-49500/sp49489.exe  Download it to the desk top and install it from there using IE8.

Restart your machine after the install and make sure Media Smart DVD under "Auto Play" in the control panel is selected for Blu-ray play back.

 Try again and it should load automatically _ give it some time for it to load.

 Also, are you running Comodo firewall ?

I followed your instructions but I got an installation error when trying to install Mediasmart DVD, so now I'm sort of screwed.

Do a Windows restore point and go back before the time I had you install the Media Smart DVD version I gave you, At least this will get you back to square 1.

Before you do that go to drive "C" and click on "Program Files x86"  >  Hewlett-Packard  >  Media. If there is still a folder there named "DVD" then there are remnants of Media Smart DVD left that should not be there. Right click and "Delete" the DVD file and run CCleaner's registry cleaner again. Restart and run the cleaner ounce and try to install Media Smart again.

 The link takes you to page 7 where DavidPK found an Windows update that causes problems.  

  Try installing a trial version of Cyberlink Power DVD 10 to see if that works, ounce you are certain that Media Smart DVD is gone.

  Quirky Media Smart software, however, the fact that you had to physically go and delete the Media Smart DVD registry files right off the hard drive, would also indicate that there is a problem with how Windows recognizes and uninstalls Media Smart.

 This is assuming that you followed this procedure.
