HP MediaSmart DVD Playing Blu-Ray DVD's on DVX series [ Edited ]

Like others I have recently been unable to play Blu-Ray DVD's on my DV7 Laptop. When a Blu-Ray Disk was loaded
and MediaSmart DVD was started it would Ask Do you want to update If yes was selected  the pop-up would close
and you would be left with a blank screen clicking the play button would result in absolutely nothing.
Clicking no would just re-ask the question.

In looking around other posts in this forum I found a reference to sp50778
which was not listed for my laptop in HP's Support and Drivers.
(the MediaSmart update for my laptop (dv7-3079) was listed as sp48296).

When I looked at the details for sp50778 it states that it applies to

I installed sp50778 on my DV7 and Blu-Ray DVD's now play correctly

That's just one of the "Buggy" things about Media Smart DVD software, it leaves people scrambling to look for the update themselves as the auto update function doesn't work very well.

 Media Smart DVD is developed by Cyberlink and maybe one day Cyberlink, HP and Microsoft will work together to solve these very real and frustrating problems.

 It's not just HP that has these problems, but many other manufactures.

i have dv 7 and unistalled media smart dvd and when i click to run the download you linked me it says it found a version of it and asks to delete it. so when i click yes, i tried looking for it but no file came up so i tried installing it one more time and it says the same..any idea what to try next?

Uninstall your Media Smart DVD and restart. Save this version to the desk top and install it from there, not from a temporary folder. After the installation restart again. Load the Blu-ray automatically with out opening the software.

 If it does not work, let me know what antivirus program and firewall you're running.

 There is also a newer version of Cyberlink DVD10 we can try, if you want, but this should work.

had problems uninstalling the DVD software, so I wiped my system, reinstalled W7, installed MS Security Essentials, browsers, and all the drivers from HP for my HDX 16. I was unable to sucessfully unistall the DVD program and it appears the sp53390 got installed correctly, did all the reccommended restarts, but I popped in a Blu-ray and nothing comes up.

Save Power DVD10 to the desk top and run it from there, not from a temporary folder.

 Restart after the installation and load the movie by using the eject button on the DVD drawer. Allow Power DVD10 to load it automatically without opening the program.

 If this does not work, can you see the movie in Windows if you go to "Computer" ? The name of the movie should be there.

 Did you install a retail version of W7 or the HP version from the recovery partition or recovery disc's ? If it's a retail version I will need your full model number, there are some better drivers out there other then what's available from the HP site.

 If in fact Media Smart DVD did install you will find it in  "C" > Program Files (x86) > Hewlett Packard > Media > DVD.

 DVD is Media Smart DVD, it should be around 92.2 MB for size and contain 1,291 Files and 180 Folders.

 I know what it's like to get so frustrated with something that I have done a few nuke and paves myself.

Here is where I go to get all my drivers and software with the exception of Intel drivers and software (go directly to their site and use their auto driver finder). I also go to NVIDIA to get my video drivers directly from them. They both work best on a retail installation of W7. If it's an HP version of W7, the NVIDIA driver may not install.

I can not get the update required in order for my dv7 Pavillion series, running Vista, to work.

The only sp update I have found by searching HP is for Windows 7 only.
