Here is the most recent version :
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp49001-49500/sp49489
Save the file to the desk top and install it from there, not from a temporary folder.
You should get a command prompt window that has to stay open on the installation and then several more will flash on the screen near the end. Shut the laptop right down and then boot up, do not restart.
After you boot up go to Auto Play in the control panel and make sure Media Smart DVD is chosen as default.

Hi, I am having problems with my DVD drive also. It is a Pavilion dv9t-1100. It will recognise the DVD. I'll get the initial screen, but them it freezes.
I tried removing them reinstalling the drivers with no luck.
Any ideas? Thanks.

@Meee1
Has it just started doing this, or has it been like this since day one ?
If you are playing DVD's and no Blu-ray's, have you tried Windows Media Player ?
Please check that you have given me your correct model number, there is a dv8t-1100, but not a dv9t-1100.

Yes, it is dv8t-1100. I haven't had it too long. It did BluRay OK at first, now nothing for that or DVD. I updated the BIOS with no luck. I also ran the registry Mechanic you recomkkended and had 450 registry errors! Now fixed, still nothing. Am currently trying the removing and reinstall of the DVD drive and drivers. Anything else I can try without having to send it in?

I did not recommend Registry Mechanic in this thread. If you look in the solution, I have used CCleaner. You do this after you uninstall any and all versions of Media Smart DVD.
Follow the instructions in the solution exactly, and save this version to the desk top.
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp49001-49500/sp49489
Before you install it again, install this video driver from NVIDIA
http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook-win7-winvist
This is for 64 bit as I am sure all dv8's are running 64 bit.
Install the video driver over top of the present one and restart.
After you update NVIDIA, install Media Smart DVD and shut the laptop right down and boot up. Do not use restart..
Go to the control panel and find "Auto Play" and make sure Media Smart DVD is chosen as default for DVD and Blu-ray.
Put a movie in and give it some time for it to load, it takes quite a bit longer for a Blu-ray.
If this does not work, Comodo Firewall has been known to give problems. If you send it into HP all they are going to do is a system restore, you can easily do that yourself.
You can also try doing a Windows restore point to a date where it was working. Things like this happen when a Windows update comes in or more likely you have installed some software that is affecting it. If you choose a Windows restore point and it solves the problem you will have to keep a careful eye on what comes in on Windows update. Make a note of any software that was removed when the restore point was done.
Let me know how it goes.

It diddn't work. I guess I'll need to do the restore later this week. There are obviously many errors on my system, thus this is probably the best thing to do. Thanks for your help.

One more thing first. Could this be a drive problem? I cannot even use Windows or Real Player to play a DVD.

You tried the video driver and BIOS. The only other things to try that would affect DVD/Blu-ray play back would be your chipset driver, intel matrix storage driver.
None of these are new and you are probably running them already.
There are a number of people here that are having the same problem, no mater what I do nothing helps, the cause is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack.

I have a pavilion dv7-1464 notebook with a bluray dvd player which is a year old. I finally got my first bluray disk and tried it in my notebook. It asked to activate player which went to a cyberlink window to download a patch, which was hp media 2.2. After a few tries it finally loaded, But I only get a green screen and audio. No video. The headers come up for features and displays written info, But no moving video. I also downloaded hpdvdplay 3.7 and updated bios f49. help
