Re: HP Mediasmart DVD failure

I did not try the above yet because I wasn't sure if my drive was the same as the other models so I didn't want to do anything without info -

My optical drive is LightScribe Blu-ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD±R/RW Double Layer Support

Re: HP Mediasmart DVD failure

Hi again,

First of all, try Microsofts automated fixit on the link below.

http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cd_dvd_drive_problems

If this doesn't work, download the latest version of MediaSmart DVD for your model from this link.

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp49001-49500/sp49489.exe

Go to the Control Panel, select programs and Features and uninstall your current version of HP MediaSmart DVD.  When uninstalled, reboot your PC.

Now try installing the new version (just double-click the installer) you downloaded and see if this now works.  Let me know.

Look forward to hearing from you,

DP-K

Re: HP Mediasmart DVD failure

I have HP Pavilion DV6000, s/n CNF7204GS4, p/n GA451va#ABA, that has a defective NVIDIA graphics chip.  Symptom: "No video on the notebook computer screen even when the notebook computer is on."  I am trying to claim resolution under NVIDIASettlement.  I know that I have previously requested resolution from your Technical Department with no success.  I also know that I registered this laptop.  Can you email me verification of purchase (& registration) since I have lost my purchase receipt.  Also can you email me record of my technical contact to your Technical Department?

Thank you!

Re: HP Mediasmart DVD failure

I tried your steps..and I am still unable to get my laptop to play Bluray.  I called tech support but they keep telling me to do system restore from the last time it worked...but it never worked...I'm getting so frustrated with this.

Re: HP Mediasmart DVD failure

My DVD drive did work when I first bought my HP Pavilion DV6000.  Then it stopped and I call HP Technical Support (got connected with some guy in India!) and he told me problem with NVIDIA chip and told me to download update for driver from NVIDIA website.  I did that but didn't solve problem.  I still can't get my DVD to open a CD.   I got tried of trying to communicate with HP India, thus just didn't use my DVD drive, until I notice of NVIDIA GPU Litigation settlement (can review at www.NVIDIASettlement.com).  Now I just need HP to verify my purchase based on my registration in order to file a claim (since I lost my receipt). - PMH

Re: HP Mediasmart DVD failure

I have been having problems for about 6 months, started about 1 month after purchase of HP G71-358NR laptop with optical rom BDDVDRW CT10L. There is no recognition when discs are placed into rom. After r unning HP and Microsoft Fix its and troubleshooting, the Laptop advises the drive is working correctly yet when a disc is inserted the message is "insert disc". I am unaware of a hp media program of being installed as mentioned in previous posts. also, have ensured bios and driver have been reinstalled yet, unable to play nor burn. Really appreciate some help. Thanks much!

Re: HP Mediasmart DVD failure

Hi carlamont,

From the Control Panel, click Device Manager.  Open the CD/DVD ROM drives tree right click on your drive and select Uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  Once uninstalled, reboot your computer and see if this has helped.  If the problem still remains, try the following.

Go back in to Device Manager and open the tree IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.  Double click the first channel ( channel 0 ) and select the Advanced Settings tab.  You are looking for an entry called ATAPI Cdrom.  If it is not on the first channel, close the window and double click the next channel and select the Advanced Settings tab.  Repeat this until you see the entry you're looking for.  Now close the window with the box displaying ATAPI Cdrom, Right click on the channel you just opened and select uninstall.  Again do not delete drivers if asked.  Once uninstalled, reboot your PC.

Let me know how you get on.

Best wishes,

DP-K
