Hi i have a hp pavilion dv7 1273d and my blu ray player will not play blu rays! it plays cds/dvds just fine! i originally thought this could have been a problem with the drive before coming on here but now i just have no clue what it is! when i first got the computer it had vista but i upgraded to 7 pro. and since then i have done multiple reformats. i do not have Hp media smart dvd on my computer anymore. i don't know if it is an issue with my bios, with the firmware, the player, or what it is.i tried running the microsoft fixit program and that did nothing and i am currently running windows firewall...I am supremely lost at this point! any help would be greatly appreciated and would result in my eternal gratitude and many kudos!

You need HP Media Smart DVD to play Blu-rays. Here is the latest version.
Media Smart is the only software there is that HP has to play Blu-ray's

Hopefully the installation will go well and things will work with out any tweaking. Save it to the desk top and install it from there. After it's finished restart your computer. Let the Blu-ray load automatically.

my dvd drive disappeared from my computer its not listed in the device manager either. I have tried to to a system recovery but all the recovery manager does is reboot the computer. I have also tried to do it by inserting the recovery disk I have purchased from HP in the dvd drive and rebooting the computer and pressing f11 and it just reboots normally. I have also tried to change the boot order by pressing f9 but it still boots normally can you help

Hi Ronney,
To start with you may want to try the automated fixit from Microsoft for CD/DVD drive problems. It's on the link below.
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cd_dvd_drive_probl
If this doesn't work and you want to recover your PC to the factory settings, follow the procedure below. Make sure you have backed up all your files, folders, programs etc first.
In your bios menu, ( tap away at f10 as you start your PC ) make sure that your optical drive is the first bootable device. If it is not, make it the first one and save the change.
Start your PC normally. When Windows has fully loaded, insert your Recovery Disk. Canel any Autoplay window that may appear, click the Start Menu and choose to restart your PC. Do not tap f11 as the computer restarts. Wait for the Recovery Menu to appear and proceed from here. Click Advanced options, System Recovery and click next. Perform a Full Destructive Recovery.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes,
DP-K

Hi,
Do you have this problem with any DVDs or CDs or just with Blu Ray? If just with Blu Ray is it MediaSmart DVD that is showing the 'No Disk Found' message?
Best wishes,

HI, I have a laptop computer HP dv9627cl. I cannot play CD's or DVD's in it, the light on the drive comes on, you can here it spinning, but won't play anything. It does not even show the drive listed on My computer. I tried the Micrsoft fix, and I am getting that my drive is not found, that it's not plugged in. How could it not be plugged in? What do I need to do to resolve this? I am running on Windows 7.
Thanks

Hi stoneyacre,
From the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager. Click to open the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers. Right click on the first channel and select uninstall. Do not delete drivers if asked. When uninstalled repeat the process for each channel. Also if an ATA controller is listed, right click and uninstall this. Again, do not delete drivers if asked.
Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives. If your optical drive appears here, right click and select uninstall. Do not delete drivers if asked.
Restart your PC and let Windows re-install these devices. Give it a minute or two, then see if the drive is working.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes,
DP-K
