See this thread.
Use this version of Media Smart after you have followed the instructions in the thread. In the solution there is a procedure to do a Windows restore point, ignore this.
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp48001-48500/sp48296
Down load it to the desk top and install it from there, not from a temporary folder.
Restart after the install and let the Blu-ray load automatically.

Hi David,
I have the same problem with my MediaSmart but I don't have the Windows update that you mentioned.
I'm running on Windows 7, 62-bit if that helps.
Thanks.

Hi David,

I'm running on Windows 7, 62-bit if that helps.
Is there another Windows update that I should be looking for instead?
Thanks.

Hi Lee,
Could you post back with the full Model No. or Part No. of your computer. Also, could you tell me a little more about the problem.
Is it just Bluray playback that is affected?
Has the problem just occurred?
What version of MediaSmart DVD do you currently have installed?
Regards,
DP-K

Hi again David,
It's the Pavilion dv6-2151 cl
It had a Microsoft C++ runtime error pop up when I tried to play the blu-ray disc.
It took me to the movie menu and all but when I actually hit Play the error message pops up.
I uninstalled the MediaSmart DVD and reinstalled the latest one they have one the HP website.
Yes, the problem has just occurred.
Thanks.
Lee

Hi again,
First of all make sure you have the latest installer for HP MediaSmart DVD and place it on your Desktop.
Next, download and install Revo Uninstaller from the link below.
http://www.revouninstaller.com/download-freeware-v
Run revo and use it to uninstall MediaSmart DVD. Right click on the icon of the program you wish to remove and select Uninstall. During the process you may be asked to delete registry entries, just select all and then click delete. Do the same for any left over files and folders. Once the uninstall has completed, reboot the PC.
When windows has fully loaded again, from the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'. In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter. Restart the PC.
Again, let windows fully load, then right click the installer for HP MediaSmart DVD on your Desktop and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. After this has completed, wait a couple of minutes and then try playing a Blu ray disc.
Best wishes,
DP-K

Hey Dave, Thanks for all your hard work. I have a HP Pavilion Elite HPE Window's 7 64 bit with a light scribe/cd player and a DVD/Blu-ray player.
I've done everything in this thread from pg 7 on, I've been working on this for six hrs now and I still get the runtime error "Programs...ram Files(86)\Hewlett-Packard\Media\DVD\HPDVDSmart.exe
then it say's
"this application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact application's support team for more information."
I had high hopes for this thread. I bought this machine two years ago and it's been a good investment. I think HP is Great product. recently my insignia player took a crap, and I've been trying to get my blue ray player to play on TV. After removing all my monitor's and TV's and reinstalling Factory settings I got some blu-ray's to work. But my daughter has a favorite and that's Mega Mind, and I am determine to get this working for her today, please help.
Eric.

I have an HP Pavilion dv7-204301 laptop and my DVD software stopped reading DVDs all together. Is there anything I can do to watch movies again? I read another post/answer to another question and uninstalled the Media Smart DVD software.
