Down load CCleaner and uninstall your present Media Smart with that and then run its registry cleaner and restart. Do the registry again and if it finds something, delete and restart. Do this as many times as needed until it finds nothing.

Then save this version to the desk top and install it from there, not from a temporary folder.
A command prompt window will appear that will instruct you not to close it and then several more near the end will flash on the screen. After installing, restart the laptop.
Go to the control panel and check in "Auto Play" that Media Smart is chosen as default for Blu-ray play back. If it is not choose to do so and restart and check again.
Load the movie and let it play automatically.
Hopefully those will work.

I failed to make the recovery disks. I contacted tech support and bought a set and I am now back on-line. I have no clue what happened. But I will now be better disciplined as to making backups. I also now have the tools I need should this problem recur. Thank you for all your help.

I get the same problem. I have the nq226av (dv8t-1000 CTO?) I did notice in the settings of HP mediasmart DVD that if I select the region (When its on Region A) and Select something else "without clicking apply" (like region B), and the changing it back to region A and click apply I get "The Blu-ray Disk player was fixed to region C. Only discs from this region can play back on this player."
I never changed the region.... It defaults to A, but if I do as stated above I get that error.
Any Ideas?

I am not quite clear what is going on here, but it sounds like you have used up your 5 chances to change the region. Did you ever get a warning that you only have 5 choices to change the region and on the 5th choice, it locks itself in ?
From what you describe, it seems like it's doing this by itself. Is this correct ?

Hi,
The inability to change the Region (or the wrong region is set as default and can't be changed) is another issue that can arise if you have comodo installed. If you add HPDVDSmart.exe to the list of exclusions in Image Execution Control (found in the advanced settings of defence+) this should resolve the problem after a reboot. This also applies if you have Defence+ set to inactive.
Hope this helps,
DP-K

Hi,
Do you have Comodo software installed?

Hi,
You can still happily run Comodo but you will need to add HPDVDSmart.exe to the list of exclusions under Image Execution Control (in the advanced settings of Defence+). You will still need to do this even if you run Comodo with Defence+ disabled.
Best wishes,

I have a pavillon dv9000 notebook pc. My dvd drive has always worked when I inserted a dvd . All of a sudden it has stopped working. I check the hardware manager and it says all is working. when I insert a dvd it seems to start running but then it stops and nothing is displayed. I have tried to go to run and brouse what is on the dvd and nothing comes up.
what steps can I take to find the problem?
