Thanks for reading!
I love this notebook however it can't play my Blu-Rays! I think it messed up my Fast 5 Blue-Ray disc..
So I bought a cheap blu-ray movie (thank you Black Friday) and still nothing! It loads up fine until the movie actually plays then nothing happens, for awhile until I open task manager..
here are the specs:
Yes I have the latest MediaSmart update since I've attempted to update but was not available.
It seems others are faced with this problem and have even downloaded different players.
Oh yes one more thing, the DVD player itself works fine. It's just the Blu-Ray player..
Again thanks for reading and will answer any questions..Thank you!

Hi,
If you're using HP MediaSmart DVD to play the Blu ray disc, try the following.
HP now provides a version of Cyberlinks PowerDVD 10 which seems to be a better solution. Download the installer for this on the link below and save it to your Desktop.
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp53001-53500/sp53029
When the download has completed, open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry for HP MediaSmart DVD and select Uninstall - when this process has completed, restart the notebook.
When windows has reloaded, double-click the installer for PowerDVD 10 to start the installation. When this has completed, see if your Blu ray disc now plays OK.

Hi,
There are a couple of ways.
You can download one of the latest installers for MediaSmart DVD Here or use Recovery Manager to reinstall the version that originally came with your notebook as described Here.

Hi,
Do you have any virtual drive software installed ( such as Daemon Tools )?
Have you tried another Blu ray disc in the optical drive just to be certain the problem isn't with the disc itself?

Hi,
I'm having the same problem with my hp pavilion dv7-1223ca and I'm sure its not the disk. I've tried more than one Blu Ray in it. When I try to play a blu ray disk, the HP Mediasmart window goes green! I can hear the audio, but the whole thing goes green.
Please help??

Hp, you have a problem. I have recently lost the ability to read bluray on my dv7. I have the drive in the laptop and 2 other drives that are usb connectable. NON OF THEM WILL WORK. I attach these usb drives to my dv3 and they work fine.
I have reviewed about 20 or 30 problems I have seen posted on the net. It's different drive types and different laptops but the issue is they are ALL HP. I have 4 systems in my house and all are HP. But when you run into these types of problems that make an expensive PC useless, you have to think that HP does not care about the customer.
What do your customers have to do to get you to fix the problem????? You are a large company, bit that can change when you don't take care of business.

You gotta know there's a problem when an update makes things worse and NOT better.

I also have an HP Pavilion dv7, and I am getting very frustrated with the same issue.
I have tried different players, different Bluray Discs, and still no luck. I noticed it was only the BD's that have recently come out because of the DRM and high level security. My older BD's play fine.
I have got to say, I paid really good money for this laptop for the Bluray player and other qualities and I love it.. but this is ridiculous now that the player is useless.
HP: you need to find some software to provide to your customers that will work. I have been a loyal customer and owned nothing but HP's for the last 12 years. BD's are not cheap and If I can't even play them on my expensive computer, then tell me, do you think I will ever buy another HP again.
Please find a solution.
