HP dv5-1000US - How do I watch movies on television

I have an HP dv5-1000us. If I download movies to the laptop how do I hook it up to the television to watch them? I assume I just connect a VGA cable from the laptop to the tv and anaudio out from the computer to the tv?

Is this the best and easiest way?

does your TV have an HDMI input?  your laptop has a HDMI out put u can use that if tv has an hdmi input. or u can use Svideo and audio out fron headphone jack or VGA and audio out from headphone jack.   HDMI is best and simple

Thanks. So I hook up the HDMI or other cable and then just press play on the vido on the laptop and it plays through the tv? It's that simple?

yes it should work , hdmi if u have one is best and most simple .

I have a HP Pavilion 8000 and I used to be able to use Svideo cable to hook up to TV. Now when I hook it up I get rolling shot of my desktop and no sound and lots of snow. I tried a new cale but same result. Don,t have HDMI on the computer. What do I do?

Sounds like you need to also use an audio cable with the Svideo.

depending on your setup it would be best to use an hdmi cable. A good website to use also to stream movies in hd from your pc to your tv is imovietube , i think you will be pleased with the results especially if you play it through an hdmi cable.
