Media Smart application and the remote control

Hi,

I have a question which really disturbs me.

I have a DV3660 laptop with a remote control.

The remote has a button with the "Media Smart" button.

When I press it the Media smart software goes up.

I use the remote control to navigate to music for example. I choose  "genres" for example and then I want to go down to the genre list to choose my genre. I cant. My down key wont let me into the list. I can obviously use the mouse but the whole purpose of the remote control is... welll... remote control my media without a mouse.

Any idea how come I cannot use the remote control with media smart? Does anyone know how to select a song or genre using mediasmart?

Hi,

Silly question but...when you choose "genres", do you press the "ok" button to actually *select* genres?  Because I just tried it, and had no problem pressing the "down" button to select a certain genre, then a certain song.  If that doesn't work, I'm thinking your remote is defective.  Hope this helps...

I do press ok when on Genres. Then the Genres list shows. Then I press down and nothing happens. It wont go down to the genre list.

I am talking about the software "Media Smart" and not "Media Center".

My remote is not defective because in Media Center everything works fine.

What version of Media Smart do you have? did you download an update from anywhere? I downloaded the most recent version and still the same result.

Are you sure you are talking about "Media Smart" software and not "Media Center"?

Hi Ariel,

You were right - I was in fact talking about Media Center.  But I just tried MediaSmart & got it to work - just different buttons. 

I used the left & right arrows in the black box (with the OK button) to select genre.  After choosing a genre (with OK button), I went over to the grey "down" button (below power button) to move down to the genre sub-menu. 

Once I pressed the "down" button, I had to go back to the arrows next to the OK button to move among the genres.  Hope it works - good luck!

Thank you for testing this in your system.

Do you use the standard HP remote control that comes with your laptop?

I am asking this because in my HP remote there are only  the black arrow keys around the OK key. No grey down key below the power button.

Also if you are able to go down to the genere list below can you then keep navigating and go up back again to selecting albums / songs / genres etc?

Sorry - I didn't get an email that you had replied to this thread.  Yes, I am using the remote which came with the laptop.  But I have a Pavilion dv7-1243cl laptop, so maybe the remote is different.

And yes, I can go back up using the grey "up" button.  Seems like there must be something wrong with your remote!!  But I'm no expert...

I have that small remote contol that fits into the Expresscard of the laptop.
I couldnt find on the net an image of the remote you have but I think you have a diffrent better remote.
I attach a link which shows my remote.

Yep - Mine's better .  Looks like you can buy one for $15 if you feel like shelling out a few dollars.
