connect LG plasma tv to HPdv7 laptop via HDMI

Hi there,

Bought a new HP dv7 laptop with Bluray player and running HP mediasmart with the intention of watching bluray dvds thru laptop on my LG plasma TV via HDMI... The laptop plays the bluray dvds fine by itself but when i connect to TV via HDMI (to HDMI on laptop) I get an Information message in Mediasmart which says "The content is protected. The content is not allowed to play in the current display mode."

I've downloaded all updates and even changed DVD regions all to no avail... Please help? Adam.

Re: connect LG plasma tv to HPdv7 laptop via HDMI

Something could be going wrong with HDCP, which is a form of copyright protection utilized by Blu-Ray, HDMI, and your video chipset. Another possibility is that your TV may not be HDCP compatible. Something you can do right now is try uninstalling and reinstalling the video driver. In the mean time find out what the model number of your TV is and post it back here.

Re: connect LG plasma tv to HPdv7 laptop via HDMI

You will get that message if you have both displays on at the same time, that is the TV and the lalptop.  You have to use one or the other, not both together.

Re: connect LG plasma tv to HPdv7 laptop via HDMI

when you say "use one or the other" obviously the TV display needs to be on, but what do you mean by having the laptop display off? How and where would I toggle that? Cheers... Adam.

I have a dv6, but the controls should be similar. On mine, I toggle the display by hitting the "fn" key along with the "f4" key. (There is a monitor icon on the f4 key.)

Once you have the picture playing on your TV, you may experience some difficulty with the sound. I have posted the steps for setting up the sound here:  http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/message?board.id=Sound&message.id=2794#M2794

Hi

Hope you dont mind me coming in on your thread. I have recently bought the HPdv7 laptop as it said it had blue ray. When I try to play blue ray discs nothing happens not even any error messages. I am now not sure whether it is in fact blue ray. I have lightscribe and the set up booklet mentions blue ray discs. The description in currys & Pc world both say "watch blue ray movies on this laptop". Is there something I should be updating.

Any advice please before I go back to seller.

Thanks in advance for any help
