Hello I am having the same problem as listed previously.  I checked to see if the youcam driver was installed and it was.  Under my device Manager there is nothing listed under "imaging device"  to give you the "vendor ID"  My device manager doesnt have anything with HP TruVision anywhere.  

 

Here is my information:

HP Pavilion dv7-6175us

Product LW172UA#ABA

 

It has a HP Truvision HD webcamera ontop but there isnt a red light or anything.  Any advice would be appreciated.

I have the same stupid problem on my brand new dv6t 6100 Quad Edition Entertainment PC ..  I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium and when I open my device manager .. there is no IMAGING DEVICES listed in my Device Manager!!  Not so groovy in my opinion!

 

I have called HP tech support and spent hours with them trying to get this fixed.  I ended up doing 2 factory reset installs (ugh) while going through this process and finally .. they are now sending me a box to send my laptop in to have it fixed -- probably a hardware issue?  It worked fine for the first month -- and came with the CyberLink YouCam Software.  Then .. one day .. poof -- the device is not longer detected anywhere in my system, not even the device manager.  Instead -- I have an unknown USB device pop up that annoyingly doesn't go away. 

 

I was told once they "fix" it -- they will once again do a factory reset of the system!  This is just terrible.  I had this custom built and where did it ship from?  Shanghai!  Not even built here in the U.S.  I was assured that the repair would be conducted stateside ... 

 

Only thing I'm glad about is having purchased the HP Total Care package ...  this laptop is still "brand new" to me, though I've had it for 6 months now.. and for 5 months, I can't get resolution to the webcam issue and now they finally decide I need to ship it in for repair.  Very disappointed ...  HP has spiraled downhill.  My last laptop (thought ancient and slow as molasses in winter) still works and I've had it for 7 years.  It just doesn't have a webcam and this was one feature I had really looked forward to finally having!

1. Go to device Mgr, yes there are many ways but one is to type Device into the start search field and select Device Manager from the list.

3. Double click on "HP TrueVison HD" and you should the properties window with 3 tabs (general, driver & details)

4. Click on the "details" tab and look for the property dropdown menu, it probably says "Device Description" when you first go in.

5. Choose "Hardware ID's" and you will see a long string of Alphanumerics, just look for where it says VID_XXXX the 4 x's will in fact be a series of 4 numbers and letters, that is your vendor ID for this device :generic:

yes, its a lose wire.  I have no idea why they feel the need to do a factory reset just to plug in a wire they already know is too short.  I am very dissapointed as well.  I have purchased 5 hp laptops over the past 6 years.  I won't be again.  Next time I will go out to see who builds the most reliable and has the best service because its obviously not HP anymore.  This is a total waste of my time other than to copy the complaints and website so I can write a nasty review.

I used the chat and they recommended to do the following:

1) install http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp54001-54500/sp54246.exe  youcam

2) install driver http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp47501-48000/sp47793.exe 

3) install bios update http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp47501-48000/sp47793.exe

 

 

Result it still doesnt work.  Conclusion my webcam doesnt work and its not a software problem.  Its a hardware problem that everyone knows about but doesnt fix.  They recommend that i take it to a hardware specialist?  I dont get it, its a brand new laptop.  Anyone else have any ideas let me know please.  Apparently if you go under device manager and there is no "image device" listed its hardware issues or something like that.

Same for me.  New laptop and it works fine for 2 weeks... on skype and by itself with youcam and then nothing... then today... microphone does not work.  what gives?  I search and search and don't see a clear fix or a reason on why this is happening.

i had the same problem the wire on the cam came loose then the 2 PC the mic and cam went out i carried it back to best buy here in paducah ky since i just bought it they gave me a new one i brought it home last night everything works i had to go update adobe flash to 11 then everything works fine cam started working and everything else but be careful if you need help im pretty smart call me at {Personal Information Removed} ill walk you through the process Merry Christmas and may everyone have a blessed day Please just call me if your serious thank you

Hi Guys,

 

I had the same problem with a HP Pavilion dv7-6e22b. I read about a short cable on the inside of the screen.
I found the following post about how the screen is connected. this was an older model but i was curious about how to remove the lid of the machine. it contains 2 screws (which I didn't have to unscrew to acces the camera) just be causious not to break the bevel.

this is a older model in the new model the webcam connector is located directy under the webcam lens itself.
I pressed te connector lightly. And all ofa sudden I hear a USB connecting sound. After that my device manager showed a connected "image device" and the software worked directly.

 

I hop this will solve your problems to. I must say reading all the posts and not finding a solution in driver or software and after seeing the connector I think it's a poor deisgn effort using such short cables and tiny connectors.

I have the exact same problem. the webcam cannot be detected. Here is my complete model information.

Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium.

 

I can not see the "Imaging Devices" under Device Manager.

 

My webcam driver is installed, up to date, and enabled.

 

Do I take this back to the retailer for repair/trade/return?

I Had exactly the same problem the webcam connector was not connected (short cable) opened the bevel without removing any screws (just be careful not crack it) pressed the connector e voila USB device found and working nicely good luck! In the post above there is a short image discription how to remove the bevel
