I understand that you are looking to play DVDs on your HP Envy X with an external optical drive, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To effectively play media on your notebook computer, I recommend following this document on Using CyberLink PowerDVD to Play Videos, Music, and Movies (Windows 😎. In regards to operating your external DVD drive, I will need to know the product and model number of this device.
