hp pavilion g6 2305sq
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello hp forums, i have some big trouble with my notebook.

The hd7670m graphics card inside this laptop has its gpu clock and memory locked to 400mhz, also ocassionaly the i7cpu locks its frequency in low power mode at 1.2ghz and i have to restart it for it to work again 2.2ghz-to 3.2 turbo.

Spoiler
Spoiler
I suspect this is because i made BIOS update flash from the g6 2350sq drivers page :Crying: , i used the F27.A  from september 2016 and the flash was successfull but around that time the problems started to occur, i didnt notice imediately so im not sure this is the cause.

What i have tried already:

-Installed multiple versions of windows 7,8.1, 10

-Installed multiple versions of video drivers for intel gpu and AMD gpu from old ones version 14 to newest 15.7 and crimson 16.2 nothing works.

-I tried installing Linux  and the CPU didnt lock anymore somehow but i cant see the gpu clocks in linux  and when i tested with 3D applications it used the intel iGPU hd 4000 so im not sure if AMD gpu worked under linux, either way i run windows 10 most of the time and it doesnt work.

- I tried various power profiles and tweaks  + other registry tweaks and ULPS disable nothing worked.

What i need is to know from HP support if you can help me with a copy of the original BIOS version that hp g6 2305sq comes preinstalled so i can flash it again to original version maybe it will fix it.

Please help me out.

Hi @yian_hannes,

I reviewed your post and thanks for the quick response. You could  roll back the bios version by visiting this link:http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02693833

It rolls the computer back to the previous bios version. If it is the same version as the current one, obviously the rollback would not happen.

Have you checked by disabling startup items from the Microsoft system configuration utility which might correct the current situation with the computer?

Please close unnecessary tasks from task manager from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03671001

It may correct the current situation that you are facing with the unit now.

Trust me I have done all I can to help by keeping your best interest in mind.

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up"button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.  🙂

Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂

Happy holidays to you and your family:)  Take care.:)

Good Day 🙂 How are you doing? 🙂 Thanks for posting your question in the  HP Community. I read the post about the GPU issues and getting assistance to flash the bios for your computer. I’ll be more than happy to assist you here. 🙂

At the outset, you’ve diagnosed perfectly. Excellent job on that score. Kudos to you. 🙂 It is always a privilege to work with technically savvy customers. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. We value your relationship with HP and wish to serve you better. 🙂

The bios update that will be provided will be is for windows 7 64 bit Operating system.

Link 1 for windows 7: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-g6-Notebook-PC-series/5330578/model/5354...

Link 2: for windows 8: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-g6-Notebook-PC-series/5330578/model/5354...

Please go back to an earlier version of windows 7 or windows 8 that you first installed and then update the bios. Then you could install windows 10 on it and update the graphic drivers from the manufacturer’s website.

Please run the AMD Radeon auto-detect tool from this link: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/auto-detect-tool

Hope this helps and answers your question. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you .:)

Hello David thanks for your time to help, the links you provided show me the general drivers page for 2305sq notebook there is only 1 BIOS on that driver page version F27.A which is what i have installed. I already tried reflashing it a 2nd time (the F27A version) but still didnt fix it.

I would like to know if i can get an earlier version BIOS like F26, F25 i dont remember which one my notebook had before flashing to F27A.

I searched the web a lot i couldnt find a copy of F26, F25,F24 or any other earlier version for 2305sq, hopefully HP technical support has access to some older versions.

If there is any other solution to fixing frequency locking to low power mode, i dont know what is happening that causes this. The laptop runs just fine nothing broken or acting weird.

Sorry it was my fault i didnt not see there was "Previous Versions" section for bios now i downloaded multiple versions F22,24,25,26.

But the problem i am facing is that i tried recovery with USB flash drive like the guide shows me from the link you gave me but i press Windows key +B i hold for a long time and the screen stays black nothing happens.

I repeated this with 2 different USB flash drives and bios f25, f26 i tried, the screen stays black and i cannot recover from usb sadly 😞

Thanks for your time and guidance, i will try again but it doesnt looks like its going to work.

Hi @yian_hannes,

I am glad that you responded quickly and accepted the solution. thanks a lot for that. 🙂 I genuinely hope things work great and the unit stays healthy and works fabulously for a long time without hassles. 🙂 You've been amazing to work with and I take it as a privilege to work with a champion like you with such extensive technical skills. 🙂

Please press the power button along with the windows key and the letter "B" after doing a hard reset while restarting the computer, without trying the USB flash drive. Please keep me posted.
