Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

So I noticed this little line hardly visible at all on my computer screen. It looks like somebody took the pencil tool from wndows paint and drew a little spec on the screen. I thought it would go away after restarting but Its been a couple weeks now and its 3 times the size, still not big but its a little black line about the size of your pinky finger nail. Again it looks like a line drawn by windows paint or something . Like this _____ maybe a tiny little bit blacker but thats pretty much exsactly what it looks like and you get the point. Its not a spot or circle, it a line, looks like a glitch which is why i thought it would go away. Anyway, anyone know what is causing this? how to make it go away? Nothing happened to my comp as im the only one who uses it. I just turned it on one day and it started growing.

Thanks much.....

I don't know what you mean what is running in my start up.
The black line is in windows all the time! it doesn't leave and i tried taking a screen shot but it doesn't seem to pick up the line, i don't know why. I would have to take a pic with a camera and put it on my comp but i don't know how to make it so that you can see the pic on the internet.

It looks exsactly like this ____ but a tiny bit blacker and a tiny bit thicker in the middle...

What should I do.....?

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

Something is failing, either the screen or the video chipset.

To isolate which, you need to connect an external monitor to your laptop.

If the black line appears on the monitor, that means the video chipset is failing -- and there's no real way to replace that.

If the balck line does NOT appear on the monitor, that means you have dead pixels on the screen, and given the size of the line is growing, that means more pixels are dying every day.

Unless the laptop is still under the original 12-month warranty, you're probably looking at paying as much to have the screen replaced as simply replacing the laptop.

You should see if you can get a replacement estimate from an HP Service Center: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00372730?jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0004
