I bought my HP Paviion laptop in June, 2010. DVD drive no longer recognizes any DVD or CD. Worked up until about 1 month ago. I don't use it very often, anyone else have this problem?

Try running the automatic fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
Check to see whether the drive now works. If it isn't, try this next.
Open windows Device Manager. Click to open the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers. Right click on the first channel and select uninstall. Do not delete drivers if asked. When uninstalled repeat the process for each channel. Also if an ATA controller is listed, right click and uninstall this. Again, do not delete drivers if asked.
Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives. If your optical drive appears here ( regardless of what it's called now ), right click and select uninstall. Do not delete drivers if asked.
Restart your PC and let Windows re-install these devices. Give it a minute or two, then see if the drive is works correctly.
If it still isn't working, run the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below again.
Next, from the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager. Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives. Right click the drive and select uninstall. Do not delete drivers if asked. When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ). Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it now works.
Hope this helps.
