Wireless ProBook 6550b (broadcom 4313)

Dear HP Support,

I think there is a driver bug in the broadcom 4313. I have a lot connectivity problems when I use wireless channel 13. I only have the connectivity problems with my 6550b laptop. With 2 other laptops and my wireless android phone I don't have any problems.

When you look at the devicemanager > broadcom 4313 > advanced > location you can only see united states. I read on the internet that in the US you only have channel 1 -> 11 and not 1 -> 14.

I have an 64bits Windows 7 with 8 gb RAM. Because broadcom have no drivers on their site I post it here and not at Broadcom.

As a workaround I set my wireless on channel 3. This works very good.

Hope somebody can fix this problem.

With kinds regards,

Thomas

Re: Wireless ProBook 6550b (broadcom 4313)

Hi, Thomas:

Have you installed the latest driver for your WLAN card?    5.60.350.11 (5 Aug 2010)

If not, maybe you should give it a try.

Re: Wireless ProBook 6550b (broadcom 4313)

Thank you for this post, Thomas.

We've ordered 10 of these. We have 2 access points in the office - one on channel 1, one on channel 11.

They all worked with extremely bad latency and throughput on the channel 11 side.

I changed the channel 11 access point to channel 6 and they are all now functioning flawlessly. This is a serious issue I would not expect in a product called "ProBook."

Thanks,
-Drew

This is so strange that a new Notebook would have such a slow wifi!

I just bought the 6450B and it doesn't go beyond 75mb connection.

Re: Wireless ProBook 6550b (broadcom 4313)

I have heard that the Broadcom chipset does not support speeds over 65 Mbps, thus being unable to use wireless-N to its full extent. That really isn't up to the standards of the otherwise brilliant b-series of notebooks (I have a 6360b LG631ET).

Is it possible to replace the mini-PCIe card with an Intel 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN card (HP partno. 572520-001)? If so, then I'll be more than happy to spend some money, in order to connect to my home network with speeds up to 300 Mbps.

Re: Wireless ProBook 6550b (broadcom 4313)

Yes I fixed it, but only by replacting the Broadcom 1x1 b/g/n WLAN hardware by proper Intel 2x2 a/b/g/n hardware. You can't get better speeds from the Broadcom 4313 than 72 Mbit/s, because it uses only one antenna.

Replacing is easy, though it did set me back some 57 Euro, the card was recognized immediately (driver was already present) and connects up to 300 Mbits/s on both 2,4 and 5 GHz. Smiley Happy

The HP partno. is 572520-001 and it looks like a bog standard Intel 6205 mini-PCIe card to me, as there was no HP reference on the card (though ordered through official HP channels), only the following information:

Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6205

Model: 62205ANHMW

FCC-ID: PD962205ANHU

IC: 1000M-62205ANHU

C/M: 62205ANHU

You can pick these up at eBay for as little as $32 incl. shipping.

Re: Wireless ProBook 6550b (broadcom 4313)

I had the same problem.

Wifi did not work on windows 10 ( on 2 ntbs work and on 2ntbs didnt work).

I couldnt turn on wifi adapter (bcm4313).

Wifi button did not work..

So:

I insert other hard drive,

i installed windows 7

on windows 7 this wireless button worked so i turn wifi on.

i turn off my laptop.

i insert old hard drive with windows 10 and wifi was working.

I think it will be helpful
