I had this issue when we purchased a large order of hp 8460 Laptops for the district. The wireless light would stay orange and you were unable to pick up any wireless connection. I was able to resolve the issue:
1. Downloading HP support assistant
2. Running network diagnostics
The assistant has the ability to turn on the the adapter...a switch I was unable to find in the software.
Thanks,

There are several suggested solutions, and it's unclear which one worked since I can't tell which post is being replied to.
For me, having the same problem, I just went in to the BIOS and reset to factory defaults. Worked immediately.
Hopefully I wont have to continue doing this.
The problem happened when Comcast installed an update to their modem & router. Might be coincidence - might be related, however; I had never before had this problem since I had purchased the computer.
