I have tried everything!! Someone please help me. I cannot figure out how to turn on my internal webcam for the life of me. I have a 2010 HP laptop (not sure of the model's name) however, I have an internal webcam and it is always turned off... how do I turn it on?!

@jazzminford, I see that you're having an issue trying to use the webcam in SKYPE. This seems like a software issue with the webcam. I would suggest following this document
Then go down to the section “Video does not appear in your webcam software (such as YouCam, Skype, Messenger, etc.)" These sections will show you how to update the drivers through the device manager and also test the webcam out in SKYPE.
Now, if this step doesn't seem to resolve the issue. I need to you to go down to the section that says “Reinstalling the original webcam program that came with your computer". This section will guide you through recovery the program and drivers.
Once you have finished both steps please let me know the outcome. If you have any more questions please ask.

On HP notebook, that application that uses webcam are HP MediaSmart Webcam on Pavilions or Cyberlink Youcam on Preasrio.
If you have issue locating them or any error than as suggested alt_164, check of the exact model number of the notebook and post back...

I have this problem - my webcam used to work, but all of a sudden it disappeared. I did have my computer cleaned recently, maybe something switched it off then?
I tried installing HP Quickplay from here:
I've tried a few other things, but nothing is working. It's a built in webcam that used to work perfectly and it is not physically damaged, but my laptop will not even recognize its existence - it does not appear at all in the control panel anywhere.
How can I get it back?
I have an HP Pavilion dv9500, and have had it for a few short years. On the underside beside "service" is says dv9620us.
