Adding more RAM memory

How do you add memory to the HP 100B All-in-One PC ?

I just bought this as a bundle at Tiger Direct website. The memory module that was included was a Kingston KVR1222D3S9/4G... I Don't see any way to get into the unit without taking it all apart... Hummm

Thanks in advance

John, welcome to the forum.

I read through all of the specifications for the computer.  However, I could not find any information on adding memory.  This is normally included if it is possible to do so.  For this reason, I am going to make the judgement that it is not possible.  If I am incorrect, I hope that another member will let us know.

Zonker,

Welcome to the forums.

It really benefits if there is a link to the exact model # HP100B. Tiger Direct had too many variations. The information on those pages seems in error, as WIN7 32bit OS only supports 4GB, regardless of WIN 7 OS version, except as noted.

Your machine is WIN7 32bit, right?

Please run this:http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

It will report back your memory in each of the 2 slots. Your right, you have to remove the back cover to get at it. See manual.

Memory upgrades for Windows 7 Editions

Windows 7 has a minimum memory requirement of 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit). The maximum amount of memory depends on the edition used:
Edition of Windows 7 Maximum memory
Starter (32-bit or 64-bit)2 GB
Any 32-bit version of 7 (except Starter)4 GB (approximately 3.3 GB available for use)
Home Basic 64-bit8 GB
Home Premium 64-bit16 GB
Enterprise 64-bit192 GB
Business 64-bit192 GB
Ultimate 64-bit192 GB

Zonker,

Is this your HP 100B PC?  If yes, then try this manual.

Re: Adding more RAM memory

I got the same bundle.  Yes, you do have to take it apart.  It is really like a big laptop.

Remove the 5 screws around the outside edge (on the back of the computer).  Then look at the bottom edge of the computer.  There are about a half dozen slots that a flat headed screwdriver will fit in.  Starting on one side, insert a screwdriver in each slot and twist.  You may think that you are going to break it, but each latch will pop.  You will most likely dent/deform the plastic at the point of the slots, but you would only see this when looking at the bottom of the computer, so no real issue.  Pop all the latches and it will open like a clam shell.  Looking at the back of the computer you will see a large metal plate.  Near the top left corner is a small (2"x3" or so) panel with a single screw holding it in.  Remove the screw and there is the memory.  At that point it is pretty straight forward.

You will see 6 gig of memory installed but only 2.5 available.

To use all 6 Gig...  The machine comes with Windows 7 Professional 32-bit.  You can do what I did, call HP, ask them to send you the disc for Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, and they will ship one to you, no charge.  Reload it with the 64 bit version and you should be able to use all the memory.

Did the memory install last night, called HP tonight.  You may want to do the online chat.  It took almost 2 hours to get through to their phone support.  Surprisingly enough, the guy I talked to seemed fairly knowledgeable and very reasonable.

Good Luck!
