Windows 7 does NOT support installation of HP 6500 all in one printer.

Be sure your printer is supported before purchase of Windows7 system!

Re: BEWARE!

You can most likely try installing a windows vista driver for it from hp.com since as far as I know Windows 7 allows and supports the installation of vista drivers.

Re: BEWARE!

I've had some problems too. I have found that the drivers for Vista x64 work just fine for my printers

Re: BEWARE!

How would you find out if your printer was supported or not.  Apparently I am lucky because my new HP does support my HP All in One C8180.

Re: BEWARE!

Hello lindade46, Usually, hardware drivers (printer) are supported by the manufacurer. Windows does offer some "generic" drivers for some hardware.

It is recommended that you always try to acquire the drivers from the manufacturer. Sometimes this is not possible.

Many of the Vista drivers work very well in Windows 7,  so if you cannot locate a Windows 7 driver, you can try to install a Vista driver. Be aware that Windows 7 is less forgiving when a user tries to install a driver not specifically designed for Windows 7.

Almost all computer hardware manufacturers stop support for their products for older generation hardware when new operating systems are released. There are several reasons for this, but the primary reason is cost to the manufacturer, and sales lost for new hardware if older hardware is supported. Hardware driver code cost the manufacturer quite a lot to develope.

Basically, this amounts to trial and error when trying to locate hardware drivers for newer operating systems when the hardware is several years old.

Hope this helps.
