Can anyone help me with instruction to put my pc back to factory installed condition,

It's an old machine but I can't afford a new one and a test says it's full of errors, running very slow.   It's an HP Media Center Pavillion, Model M400y.    I have one recovery disc and a software disc but there are no instructions in the packet.

I would be so grateful.

Hi, Kate:

First of all, please back up any document files, music files and photos you plan on keeping, because the recovery disk will erase everything on your hard drive and restore it to factory condition. You will no longer have access to files or programs that are not included in the recovery disk or software disk that you have.

The easiest thing to do is put the disk marked recovery disk in your CD rom drive.

Restart the PC and tap the F9 key at the HP splash screen. You should be presented with a boot options menu. Select the CD-Rom drive, hit the return key.

You should then get a message to press any key to boot from the CD. Hit any key. I usually hit the enter key.

The machine should boot up the recovery disk in the CD-Rom drive.

Then you will need to follow the instructions as presented by the recovery disk.

I have a question about my m400y. Is there a compatible motherboard that I can use? Mine finally kicked the bucket late last year.
