Compaq Presario SR1214NX Desktop PC: BIOS upgrade for SATA Hard Drive?

Hi HP Experts,

In 2004 I bought an HP Compaq Presario SR1214NX Desktop PC. Now the original Hard Drive quit and I bought a new Seagate 500GB SATA Hard Drive. I thought this would work because the  PC's MoBo has two SATA connectors. After the installation I noticed the the drive is not detected. I checked the BIOS but no Hard Drive listed. The installed BIOS is "Award BIOS Core Version 6.0 BIOS Revision 3.10 07/26/2004. What can I do? Is there a BIOS upgrade available?

Also check if we need to enable SATA support on the system in BIOS.

Anyway, I wonder what I can do with the .exe file? How can I get it into the BIOS EPROM when the computer is not running without the hard drive?

Please check if the SATA is enabled in BIOS and the sata Hdd is detected in BIOS.

Thanks for the hint. I cannot find any possibility to check if SATA is enabled. When I open BIOS Setup Menu I only see the IDE CD-Rom drive and the DVD-Ram drive. No other channel - all set to Auto detect - shows/detects any HDD.

How can I enable SATA?

Please look in the advanced tab of BIOS. There should be some option to enable SATA. Here is an example:

It seems you have a totally different BIOS.

On doing further research on this issue, I think this motherboard might not have SATA native support. You can use SATA ports through Windows after installing the necessary drivers. i would suggest you add a IDE PATA drive as primary hard drive and load Windows. Post installing windows, install the SATA drivers needed and then connect the SATA drive to use it as a secondary hard drive.
