Re: Computer Powers on, but does NOT Boot up.

Hi erico,

Thank you for the link! That is my motherboard. So do I try both methods or just how to clear the CMOS?  If I try this method, will it really revive my motherboard? And if it doesn't, do I have to buy a motherboard?

The only problem with buying a new replacement board (which I haven't done yet) is that my friend helped me found a few motherboards that might be replacement and compatible with my PC...but I want the exact motherboard like the photo in the link that you sent me. The other motherboards were "cheap" and I heard that it shouldn't be that cheap?

I was going to call HP after I find out if my hard drive is still in good condition because I heard that it could be fried as well.

My question to you is..is there a replacement motherboard (the same model) for my PC?

It just exceeded the "Limited Warranty" so I know I'm not under warranty. :smileysad:

I will try the method that you sent me. I hope it is safe. And one last thing about the clearing the CMOS. If I do leave it overnight, that is safe as well right? Then I plug in everything and power my computer, correct?

Oh thank you so much! It's probably the last thing I can do before I do buy a new motherboard!

Re: Computer Powers on, but does NOT Boot up.

Hello,

Well after I exchanged the modem and hooked the new modem up, that's when I realized the computer did not boot up..only the fans kept running. Nothing showed up on the monitor so I couldn't do much and the keyboard didn't work at all.

I've done a lot of things..the surge protector didn't help at all. I've turned off the power completely as well of course. I don't know if it has anything to do with the new modem...but I doubt it. I provided that detail so people are aware of it.

From what I heard and know, the lightning came crashing through my cable line, through the modem and fried it, and probably some static probably went through my computer since that was obviously hooked up to the modem.

Even though it worked for a good 4-5 days, something (a part) was probably dying. <<That is what I heard from a tech I know.

There were no beeps and I can't see any lights light up when powering on.. on the motherboard.  So I come to the conclusion that it is my motherboard :smileysad:

Hi,

Do the clear CMOS procedure. That has been known to bring PCs back from the grave. It doesn't always work though.

You can buy a replacement motherboard at a pretty reasonable cost.

Leaving it overnight jumpered until the next day is safe. The next day just put the jumper back in position 1-2 , replace the CMOS battery and close up the PC. Plug the power connector back in and push the power button. I hope it does work but there is not guarantee on this. It certainly is worth a try.

Please post your results here

I will see if I can find links to a number of places you can order the motherboard from.

egards,

erico
