Recently I had my D drive wiped as it was mangled. Anyway, I do not have the HP total care facilities on my computer any more. I saved it all on a disc before it was fixed. So, how do I install it now that it is sitting on my desktop? Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Pam,
What model HP PC and operating system are you using?
The "D" partition is normally the HP Recovery partition. Getting that back will mean doing a complete hard drive recovery (destructive) using the HP Recovery disks. Be sure that your data is backed up. You did burn a a set of the HP recovery disks, right? If not, then you will need to order a set from HP (~$20).

Hello pambrown, As Big_Dave suggested, the D: partiton (drive) is the HP Recovery Restore partition, and should never be accessed for any purpose. If this partition is used for any purpose other than a Recovery Restore, it will become corrupted an rendered unusable for it's intended purpose.
When you first received your HP system, you should have made the Recovery Restore Disk set, before using the system.
Then if, or when, this disaster occurred, you could have inserted the disk one of the set in the optical drive, and the Recovery process would have installed the partitions and software as it was shipped. You would loose any data, documents or other applications that you may have added since you got the system, but at least you would have your system working again.
As Big_Dave suggest, if you did not make the Recovery Restore disks, they can be ordered from HP for about $15.00-$20.00 USD or so.
I recently ordered some for a Laptop that had a hard drive failure, and the owner had not made the Recovery Restore Disk.
These Recovery Restore disk cost me $15.71 USD shipped.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Guys,
I did that, but the info is now in a folder labelled System Recovery on my desktop and I don't know how to extract/download the HP stuff I want. I hope this clarifies things....

Hello pambrown, When you mentioned "I did that", what exactly did you do?
You must be sure you have backed up all your documents, photos, and any other data that you may need later.
It will all be lost when the system software is reloaded on the hard drvie with the HP Recovery Restore disk..
If you have the HP Recovery Restore disk set that you made, just insert disk one into the optical drive and reboot the computer and the Recovery process will begin. Just follow the onscreen instructions.
The Icon on the desktop may be the program to make the HP Recovery Restore Disk set.
If this is not the case, please let us know.

Hello pambrown, Glad to hear you have your system back up and running. Since you performed the HP Recovery Restore, the computer should be back as it was when you received it new from HP/Compaq.
If you had your email client application set to keep a copy of your emails on the server, they should all still be there.
Even if you did not have it set to keep these emails on the server, when you setup your email client application on your newly restored system, your new emails should be available.
You may want to set the email client application up as you did when you got the computer from HP. If the email client was not set to keep a copy of the emails on the server, all they emails that have been read will have been deleted.
The purpose for leaving a copy of your emails on the server, is that when this setting is made, and you read an email and delete it, it will be removed from the server and no longer be available in case you had another computer that you use to check emails with, such as a desktop or a Laptop.
All the original HP applications that came with your computer should be available now as they were originally. You should try and update any and all of these programs that have updates available.
When you have your system back as you want it, you can delete the HP Recovery Icon, along with the applications in that folder. The icon on the desktop is just a shortcut to this folder. It no longer serves any purpose.
Hope this is not too confusing and helps.
