DX 5150 - Red Light and 5 Beeps

Hit the power button and get 5 loud beeps and red light flashing.  Removed all 4 DIMM modules and tried to restart and still get 5 beeps (normally a memory issue) - not sure what my next step should be?  Any help???

Re: DX 5150 - Red Light and 5 Beeps

Hello vudu211812, Below are some beep codes for the AMI BIOS. These may apply to your motherboard and may not.

AMI BIOS Beep Codes
Code Description 1 Short Beep System OK
2 Short Beeps Parity error in the first 64 KB of memory
3 Short Beeps Memory failure in the first 64 KB
4 Short Beeps Memory failure in the first 64 KB Operational of memory
or Timer 1 on the motherboard is not functioning
5 Short Beeps The CPU on the motherboard generated an error
6 Short Beeps The keyboard controller may be bad. The BIOS cannot switch to protected mode
7 Short Beeps The CPU generated an exception interrupt
8 Short Beeps The system video adapter is either missing, or its memory is faulty
9 Short Beeps The ROM checksum value does not match the value encoded in the BIOS
10 Short Beeps The shutdown register for CMOS RAM failed
11 Short Beeps The external cache is faulty
1 Long, 3 Short Beeps Memory Problems
1 Long, 8 Short Beeps Video Card Problems

If the 5 beep code is actually related to the CPU, it may not be a faulty CPU, but perhaps a heat issue.

If it is out of warranty, and you want to attemp a repair, you can check for a dirty CPU fan, and clean the dust from the fan/CPU, or even remove the Fan only and reapply some thermal paste and then reinstall the cleaned fan and see if this resolves the issue. Make sure you reinsert the memory modules.

You can Google to see how to reapply the thermal paste.

Hope this helps.

[ Edited ]

5 beeps is a pre-video error, either bad memory or a bad motherboard.

Re: DX 5150 - Red Light and 5 Beeps

I have 4 DIMM's which I removed & reseated and even tried to reboot with no DIMM inserted & still get the same 5 beeps. Can this be something other than a memory issue since I doubt all my DIMMs are bad.
