I am using HP Assistant Tune-Up on a Pavilion Elite e9260f pc, and the defragment session has taken over 16 hrs. The computer has an i5 processor and a 1 TB HD. Is this normal?

Indywalkers, welcome to the forum.
No, this appears to be abnormal. I suggest discontinuing the defrag and try using the Disk Defragmenter in System Tools; Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / Disk Defragmenter. I just defragged my HDD (500GB) in less than 10 minutes. It may a bit longer if your HDD hasn't been defragged for quite some time.
NOTE: When I used Support Assistant to defrag my HDD it failed. Using the method that I suggested above it worked perfectly.
Please let us know if this solves your problem or not.

My HP was having the same problem, and from reading the answer here I did the right thing stopping the tuneup, and I understand I can run the defrag outside of the tuneup, but how do I restart the tuneup to finish the parts that were supposed to happen after the defrag? Thanks!

Same problem here. The disk defrag was running 24 hrs+. Unistalled HP Support Assistant and reinstalled it. Ran disk defrag and again, it has been running for 24+hrs. Went under accessories...tools and did it that way and it was done in less than 10 mins. Thanks for the tip!

@ Alan,
It would be better to start your own thread in the future. I don't normally go back to review older threads that were solved. However, I would be interested in the outcome.

OK - I found my answer elsewhere, and it was simply a matter of editing the tasks the tuneup does - thanks!
